DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. East Africa, Seychelles and Mascarenes east to Marshall Islands, Samoa and Tonga, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Solitary or in pairs, in lagoon and seaward coral or rocky reef habitats, 2– 60 m. Marine.
Centropyge aurantia Randall & Wass, 1974 —Golden angelfish
STATUS AT MADANG. New record from Madang, based on a specimen collected by W.-J. Chen in Madang Bay. AMS, NTUM and WAM material (AMS I.17087-005, I.17088-081; NTUM 10242; WAM P.30629-001). DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Papua New Guinea east to Caroline Islands and Samoa, north to Sulawesi ( Indonesia), south to Queensland ( Australia) and Solomon Islands. Cryptic, in coral-rich areas of coral reefs, 3– 20 m. Marine.

New record from Madang, based on specimens observed and photographed at St. CTR 0 3, CTR 0 4, CTR 0 7, CTR 0 9, CTR 10, CTR 13, CTR 14, CTR 16, CTR 16B, CTR 19, CTR 20, CTR 21, CTR 24, CTR 28, CTR 31, CTR 34, CTR 35, PR 105; specimens collected by W.-J. Chen in Madang Bay. CAS, NTUM, ROM, USNM and WAM material (CAS 65204, 65205, 65206, 65207, 65208, 65209, 65210, 65211, 65212; NTUM 10243; ROM 66895, 67018; USNM 293712; WAM P.30362-013).
DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Indonesia east to Caroline Islands and Samoa, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia and Lord Howe Island. Solitary, in pairs or in small groups, in coral-rich or rubble areas of lagoon and seaward coral reefs, 1– 25 m. Marine.

STATUS AT MADANG. First record from Madang as Centropyge bispionosus by Kailola (1987b: 341). AMS, CAS and USNM material.
DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. East Africa, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Marshall and Tuamotu islands, north to Izu Islands, south to Western Australia, Lord Howe and Norfolk islands, and Tonga. Solitary or in small groups, cryptic on steep outer coral or rocky reef slopes, 3– 45 m. Marine.
Centropyge fisheri (Snyder, 1904) —White-tail pygmy angelfish
STATUS AT MADANG. First record from Madang as Centropyge flavicauda by Kailola (1987b: 341). BPBM and WAM material.
DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. East Africa east to Hawaiian, Marquesas and Tuamotu islands, north to southern Japan, south to Queensland ( Australia) and New Caledonia. Solitary or in aggregations, in coral rubble areas of lagoons, passages and slopes of seaward coral reefs, 10– 95 m. Marine.

STATUS AT MADANG. New record from Madang, based on WAM material (WAM P.30360-001). DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Christmas and Cocos-Keeling islands (eastern Indian Ocean) and Indonesia east to Society Islands, north to southern Japan, south to Queensland ( Australia) and New Caledonia. Solitary or in small groups, in caves or under ledges of seaward coral reefs, 7– 70 m. Marine.

STATUS AT MADANG. New record from Madang, based on a specimen photographed by A. Berberian. AMS, CAS, USNM and WAM material (AMS I.17085-004, I.17085-005, I.17090-045; CAS 65220, 65221; USNM 345140; WAM P.30364-001).
DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Indonesia east to Philippines and Vanuatu, north to southern Japan, south to Queensland ( Australia) and New Caledonia. Solitary or in groups, secretive, in coral-rich areas or coral rubble of lagoon and seaward coral reefs, 3– 70 m. Marine.

New record from Madang, based on specimens observed and photographed at St. CTR 0 1, CTR 0 2, CTR 0 3, CTR 0 4, CTR 0 5, CTR 0 7, CTR 0 8, CTR 11, CTR 12, CTR 14, CTR 15, CTR 21, CTR 22, CTR 25, CTR 27, CTR 31. STATUS AT MADANG. New record from Madang, based on specimens observed and photographed at St. CTR 0 1, CTR 0 2, CTR 0 3, CTR 0 5, CTR 0 6, CTR 0 7, CTR 0 8, CTR 11, CTR 12, CTR 14, CTR 15, CTR 26, CTR 35, CTR 36. Previously reported as Chaetodontoplus mesoleucu s (non Bloch, 1787) by Kailola (1987b: 342). CAS material (CAS 65228, 65229).
DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Eastern Indonesia east to Palau, south to New Guinea and Solomon Islands. Solitary or in pairs, in coral-rich areas of sheltered inshore reefs and seaward coral reefs, 1– 20 m. Marine.

DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Indonesia east to Philippines, New Guinea and Vanuatu, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to Queensland ( Australia) and New Caledonia. Usually in groups, on slopes of seaward coral reefs, 20– 45 m. Marine.

STATUS AT MADANG. New record from Madang, based on a specimen photographed at St. CTR 16. DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Red Sea and East Africa, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Hawaiian Islands and Pitcairn Group, north to southern Japan and Ogasawara Islands, south to Western Australia, Lord Howe, Tonga and Austral Islands. Juveniles found in semi-protected channels and on outer reef flats; adults under ledges and in caves of coral-rich lagoon and seaward coral and rocky reefs, 1– 100 m. Marine.

Red Sea and East Africa, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Samoa and Tonga, north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia, New South Wales ( Australia) and New Caledonia. Juveniles found in tidal pools, semi-protected channels and on outer reef flats; adults under ledges and in caves of coral-rich lagoon and seaward reefs, 1– 30 m. Marine.

DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Maldives and Chagos Archipelago east to Philippines and Vanuatu, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found in coral-rich areas of coral reefs, 5– 30 m. Marine.
