Redescription (following Caldara 1990). Integument reddish to black, usually at least apical part of rostrum, tibiae and tarsi reddish; covered with more or less thick scales. Head between eyes usually as wide as rostrum at base, eyes flat to convex. Rostrum usually sexually dimorphic in shape and length. Scrobe not visible from above, in lateral view oblique and convergent ventrally at base of rostrum. Antennal funicle 6–7 segmented, first and second segment elongate, others gradually more transverse. Prothorax variable in shape, from slightly longer than wide to distinctly wider than long. Elytra from short, oval or subglobose, to long, subelliptical or rectangular, elytral interstriae flat or a little convex, wider than striae that are formed by deep and regular punctures, being more or less visible between the vestiture. Abdomen with pygidium in male mostly hidden by elytra and approximately perpendicular to longitudinal axis of body and with a transverse ridge (missing only in the T. bajtenovi group). Legs with femora unarmed or with more or less pronounced tooth (especially metafemora), profemora in male sometimes with ventral fringe of pale scales; tibiae more or less arcuate, protibiae sometimes with distinct tooth at middle of inner margin in male; tarsi with more or less elongate articles, third tarsomere weakly to strongly bilobed, claws usually with two more or less long medial teeth. Male genitalia with body of penis variously shaped, more or less sclerotized on dorsum, usually symmetrical, with long setae at its apex on ventral part; internal sac only rarely with small spine-like sclerites; apodeme nearly of same length as body of penis (twice longer in T. ovalis ); spiculum gastrale Y-shaped, tegmen fork-shaped without sclerotized parameroid lobes. Female genitalia with spermatheca variously shaped, with exit of ductus usually placed lower than point of origin of spermathecal gland; spiculum ventrale with apical part more or less sclerotized, linear or fork-shaped.
