Checklist of Dolichopodidae View in CoL View at ENA of Croatia

OF THE 64 SPECIES COLLECTED IN THIS STUDY, ONLY 10 WERE PREVIOUSLY RECORDED FROM CROATIA (KECHEV & IVANOVA 2015; NAGLIS 2017) AND THUS 54 REPRESENT FIRST RECORDS . FURTHERMORE, IN THE FRAME OF ANOTHER PROJECT ( POLLET & STARK in press) SPECIMENS OF Orthoceratium lacustre ( SCOPOLI, 1763) FROM CROATIA WERE DETECTED, WHICH RAISES THE TOTAL NUMbER OF SPECIES OF CROATIA TO 94 . THE IDENTITY OF THE SPECIES REPORTED bY KECHEV & IVANOVA (2015) COULD NOT bE CHECKED AND ARE INCORPORATED IN THE CHECKLIST AS MENTIONED bY THESE AUTHORS. IN THE PRESENT CHECKLIST, SPECIES ARE ARRANGED ALPHAbETICALLY , WITH THE SUbFAMILY INDICATED bETWEEN bRACKETS FOR EACH SPECIES. SPECIES RECORDS REFERRING TO OUR SURVEYS HAVE THE FOLLOWING FORMAT [LOCALITY ID, SEE TAbLE 1]: NUMbER OF MALES, NUMbER OF FEMALES, SAMPLING PERIOD/DATE, COLLECTING METHOD. COMPLETE LAbEL DATA ARE GIVEN FOR THE O. lacustre SPECIMEN. THE DISTRIbUTION OF ALL RECORDS (INCLUDING THOSE FROM THE LITERATURE) FROM COUNTIES OF CROATIA IS GIVEN IN TAbLE 4. WHEREVER POSSIbLE, INFORMATION ON THE HAbITAT OF THE SPECIES IS ALSO ADDED AS WELL AS ITS DISTRIbUTION, IN PARTICULAR FOR SPECIES OF SPECIAL FAUNISTIC INTEREST . THIS INFORMATION IS bASED ON THE PRIVATE EURODOL MICROSOFT ACCESS DATAbASE OF THE SENIOR AUTHOR, LITERATURE AND HIS EXPERT JUDGEMENT.

1.? Achalcus phragmitidis Pollet, 1996 ( ACHALCINAE ) – new to Croatia

Habitat. RECORDED FROM MARSHLANDS AND SWAMPS, FROM bRACKISH REED MARSHES TO ALDER CARRS. THUS FAR ONLY RECORDED FROM BELGIUM ( POLLET 1996 ) .

Remarks. THIS FEMALE SPECIMEN SHOWS A DARK bROWN THORAX WITH TWO bROWNISH YELLOW ZONES ALONG THE DORSOCENTRAL bRISTLES, PARTLY bROWNISH YELLOW PLEURA AND A POSTPRONOTUM WITH TWO ROUND bROWNISH YELLOW SPOTS. THIS COLORATION DISTINGUISHES IT FROM Achalcus thalhammeri LICHTWARDT, 1913 WITH A MOSTLY ENTIRELY DARK bROWN THORAX (POLLET 1996). HOWEVER, IN THE AbSENCE OF MALES AND ESPECIALLY IN THE CASE OF SPECIMENS FROM SOUTHERN EUROPE, IT IS ALWAYS RECOMMENDED TO bE CAUTIOUS IN ASSIGNING NAMES TO FEMALES, HENCE THE qUESTION MARK.
