Type species. Turbo petiverianus Wood, 1828 ; original designation by Troschel (1847: 44).

Remarks. Myxostoma is distinguished from other subdiscoidal confamilials by its medium to large shell size, peristomal extension along the periphery of the last whorl and its corneous (horny) operculum ( Troschel, 1847; Egorov, 2016).
