Genus Ariasa Distant, 1905d
Type species. Tympanoterpes colombiae Distant 1892a: 60 ( Colombia) .
REMARKS. Species of the genus Ariasa can be distinguished from the other Guyalnina by the absence of bright green fore wing basal area and bright red hind wings basal area, eyes not stylate and extended anteriorly, head wider than mesonotum with eyes projecting beyond anterior angles of the pronotum, angled radial crossvein, triangular male opercula, laterally sides of abdomen expanding from base, timbal covers with curved anterior apex, and posteriorly extending median uncus lobes.
The genus Ariasa is most similar to Cracenpsaltria Sanborn, 2016c but species of Ariasa can be distinguished by the posteriorly extending median uncus lobe, rounded pygofer distal shoulder, laterally expanding abdominal segments, and length of the abdomen being less than the distance between the apex of head and posterior cruciform elevation. In contrast, species of Cracenpslatria possess separate, long hooked lateral uncal lobes, angled pygofer distal shoulder, parallel sides of abdomen, and length of the abdomen being greater than distance between the apex of head and posterior cruciform elevation.
Pogue (1996) listed 6 species in the genus as occurring in Peru. Sanborn (2016c) definitively listed the first species from Peru with the description of a new species so the presence of six species is highly questionable and probably represent misidentifications of species belonging to other genera.
DISTRIBUTION. Species of the genus have been reported from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela ( Metcalf 1963a; Sanborn 2011a, b; 2013; 2016b, c; 2019b; 2020a; Sanborn & Heath 2014).
