Genus Selymbria Stål, 1861 View in CoL View at ENA

Selymbria Stål 1861: 615 View in CoL .

Type species. Cicada signifera Germar 1830: 44 View in CoL . ( Brazil)

REMARKS. The genus was recently re-described with the addition of multiple new species including two from Peru ( Sanborn 2019a). The tribal characteristics also distinguish the only currently assigned genus, Selymbria , from other Peruvian genera. In particular, the triangular head when viewed from the dorsal side, prominent eyes, recurved ridge on posterior timbal cavity, and the long uncus are obvious structures to identify members of the genus.

DISTRIBUTION. Species of the genus have been reported from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guatemala, Panama, and Peru ( Metcalf 1963c; Sanborn 2011a; 2013; 2018b; 2019a; Sanborn & Heath 2014).
