Genus PTILINOXUS Lindner View in CoL

Ptilinoxus Lindner, 1966b: 20 View in CoL . Type species, Ptilinoxus fallax Lindner, 1966b View in CoL , by monotypy. Leucacron Lindner, 1966b: 19 View in CoL . Type species, Leucacron interruptum Lindner, 1966b View in CoL , by monotypy. Syn. nov. Acroleuca Lindner, 1966b: 20. Incorrect original spelling.

Ptilinoxus interruptum (Lindner) View in CoL . Comb. nov.

Leucacron interruptum Lindner, 1966b: 19 View in CoL . HT ♀ [ MNHN]: Madagascar: Périnet.

The type specimen of L. interruptum View in CoL was examined and it shows a constriction at the base of the last antennal flagellomere, which Lindner noted in the description and which is an important character for this genus. Lindner compares Leucacron View in CoL with the Oriental genus Lophoteles Loew View in CoL but did not make any comments about the new genus following the description of Leucacron View in CoL in his paper: Ptilinoxus View in CoL . We consider the antenna of the only specimen of L. interruptum View in CoL a teratological deformation and regard this genus as a synonym of Ptilinoxus View in CoL . After examining a large number of Ptilinoxus View in CoL (which comprises at least two species), we never found a single specimen with the antennal structure as found in the type specimen of L. interruptum View in CoL .

Lindner (1979) listed two males of Lophoteles plumula from the Comoros [MNHN], but these specimens belong to the genus Ptilinoxus . The only records of Lophoteles in the Afrotropical Region are from the Seychelles ( Kertész 1914, Woodley 2009).
