Type-locality. Unknown. Holotype: ♀ (MNHN).

Diagnosis. Medium-sized species (14.0–15.0 mm). Body color brownish ( Fig. 4a View FIGURE 4 ). Eyes dark brown, with short, sparse ommatrichia. Frons moderately broad and slightly divergent. Basal callus subrectangular. Subcallus with gray-pink setae laterally. Antenna brownish. Maxillary palpus with yellowish pruiniscence, and black and gray setae. Mesonotum dark brown, gray-pink laterally, with short gray and black setae and two gray longitudinal stripes extending to transverse suture. Wing with clouds on the crossveins, without appendix on R4. Abdomen dark brown, bearing short, black setae dorsally; tergites 1–6 reddish brown, with large, pale gray median triangles.

Female. Head. Eyes dark brown, without bands, with short, sparse grayish ommatrichia. Frons with yellowish gray pruiniscence, with short black setae. Frons moderately broad, slightly divergent at the base, frontal index 1.7– 2.2. Basal callus subrectangular, pale brown, touching subcallus and not touching eyes. Ocellar triangle and ocelli absent ( Fig. 4b View FIGURE 4 ). Posterior border of head gray; vertex grayish, with short black and gray setae. Subcallus covered with grayish pruiniscence, and gray-pink setae laterally. Clypeus and genae with grayish pruiniscence, genae with short, gray setae, longer near frontoclypeal suture, clypeus with short, gray setae only laterally. Beard with long gray setae ( Fig. 4c View FIGURE 4 ). Scape of antenna pale brown, with short black setae, pedicel concolorous, with weakly developed dorsal projection and short black setae. First flagellomere dark brown, strongly excavated ( Fig. 4d View FIGURE 4 ), apical flagellomeres concolorous. Maxillary palpus elongated with yellowish pruiniscence and abundant black and gray setae, wider at midlength ( Fig. 4e View FIGURE 4 ). Proboscis dark brown, labella large and fleshy. Thorax. Mesonotum dark brown, gray-pink laterally, with short gray and black setae and two gray longitudinal stripes extending to transverse suture. postpronotal lobes gray-pink, bearing long black setae. Scutellum dark brown on disc, gray-pink, with long gray setae laterally and posteriorly ( Fig. 4f View FIGURE 4 ). Legs reddish brown, coxae and femora with long gray setae, tibiae with short gray setae, remaining leg segments with short black setae. Wing with clouds on crossveins, Sc and R1 with short setae, without appendix on R4 ( Fig. 4g View FIGURE 4 ). Basicosta bare. Halter dark brown. Squamae concolorous with base of wing. Abdomen. Dark brown, bearing short, black setae dorsally; tergites 1–6 reddish brown, with large, pale gray median triangles, bearing long whitish setae laterally ( Fig. 4h View FIGURE 4 ). Sternites brown, with abundant black setae longer than those on tergites. Terminalia (follows Coscarón & Philip, 1967). Cerci subsemicircular. Tergite 10 with abundant setae. Gonapophysis with distal border slightly projecting and sinuous. Sternite 8 with wide, straight base. Genital fork with wide, slightly concave base. Spermathecal ducts short, spermatheca weakly capitate, with abundant small pores, similar to A. fontanensis .

Male. Length 12.5 mm (n = 2). Similar to female except as follows: eyes with abundant yellowish ommatrichia, upper facets same color as lower facets. Basal flagellomere less excavated. Maxillary palpus cylindrical. Cerci subcircular to triangular. Gonostyli close to A. lanei but bristles shorter. The setulae on the dorsal area of gonocoxite characteristic of this species, do not occur in other species.
