Conyza bifrons
Linnaeus
,
Species Plantarum
2
: 861. 1753
.
"Habitat in Pyrenaeis, Canada." RCN: 6224.
Lectotype
(Pruski in
Sida
21: 2032. 2005): Herb. Clifford: 405,
Conyza
3 (BM-000647043)
.
Current name:
Inula bifrons
L.
(
Asteraceae
).
Note:
Although some authors have assumed that Linnaeus (
Sp. Pl.
, ed. 2, 2: 1236. 1763) subsequently transferred
C. bifrons
to
Inula
, restricting it to the European taxon, it seems clear that this was not the case. On p. 1207 of the same work, Linnaeus also treated
C. bifrons
, with the same diagnosis as in 1753 but with only the previously cited Plukenet polynomial in synonymy. The Hermann reference was transferred to the synonymy of
I. bifrons
, along with three new synonyms.
Inula bifrons
is evidently a new name in
Inula
for the European plant (albeit with the same epithet), and not a new combination in
Inula
of
Conyza bifrons
.
