Large to mid-sized wary damselflies with clear wings (some species have brilliant blue reflective patches in the wings) and either a mostly bright blue and black striped thorax or an olive-drab and dark brown striped thorax (
Fig. 55
). Of the 22 known species, eight occur in Ecuador, most of which are very poorly known—further surveys for these rare damselflies is highly recommended. There is potential for at least one new species. A key for species identification was provided by Bick & Bick (1990a). Habitat is mostly small, heavily to partly shaded streams.
