Marsilea quadrifolia

typ. cons.
"Habitat in Indiae, Sibiriae, Galliae, Alsatiae, fossis." RCN: 7956.
Type not designated.

Generitype
of
Marsilea
Linnaeus
,
nom. cons.
(vide Christensen,
Index Filicum
: LVII. 1906).
Current name:
Marsilea quadrifolia
L.
(
Marsileaceae
).
Note:
Bobrov (in
Novosti Sist. Vyssh. Rast.
21: 20. 1984) indicated 1254.2 (LINN) as type but this collection lacks the relevant
Species Plantarum
number (i.e.
"2"
) and was a post-1753 addition to the herbarium, and is not original material for the name. Johnson (in
Syst. Bot. Monogr.
11: 39. 1986) treated a Jussieu collection (No. 1599-A, P-JU) as the
lectotype
but this material would not have been studied by Linnaeus and is not original material for the name either.
