Tulipa breyniana
Linnaeus
,
Species Plantarum
1
: 306. 1753
.
"Habitat in Aethiopia." RCN: 2407.
Lectotype
(Lewis in
J. S. African Bot.
7: 59. 1941): [icon] "
Sisyrinchium exphoeniceo suave rubente flore Aethiopicum
" in Breyn, Exot. Pl. Cent.: 83, t. 36. 1678.
Current name:
Homeria breyniana
(L.) G.J. Lewis
(
Iridaceae
).
Note:
Lewis (in
J. S. African Bot.
7: 59. 1941) formally chose the Breyn plate as the type, accepted it as belonging to what had been known as
Homeria collina
(Thunb.) Vent.
, and made the combination
H. breyniana
(L.) G.J. Lewis
for it. However, other authors, notably Goldblatt (in
J. S. African Bot.
39: 139, f. 2. 1982), have been less certain of the identity of the type and appear to have informally rejected the name in favour of
H. collina
.
