A. brunnea
Jeannel, 1936: 66
(as
brunneus
);
Szymczakowski, 1975: 15
(as
brunneus brunneus
; type seen); Gnaspini, 1996: 539 (as
brunnea brunnea
);
Gnaspini & Peck, 2001: 429
, 430 (assignment to group), 2019: 10, 14 (tentative assignment to subgroup; removal of all subspecies additional to s. str.).
Holotype
male [a single specimen in original description, assumed as
holotype
] in
BMNH
[not there, according to
Gnaspini & Peck, 2019
; but confirmed to be there by Maxwell Barclay, 2020, personal comm.].
Type locality: “
Colombia
”.
Distribution:
Colombia
: known only from “type locality”.
Note 1:
Szymczakowski (1975: 14)
, when discussing identity of
A. brunnea
Jeannel [1936]
and describing and assigning subspecies to that species, commented that it is probable that
A. ovalis
would also be synonym of
A. brunnea
; and he proposed to use the latter as the valid name [but the former has page precedence] if this synonymy is proved right. This has never been used in the literature.
Gnaspini & Peck (2019: 14)
considered both as valid species, and did not propose a revalidation because they understood that Szymczakowski´s statement is not a valid taxonomic act, a position followed here.
Note 2: Subspecies received specific status after study of
types
(Gnaspini, 1996: 539;
Gnaspini & Peck, 2001: 430
, 2019: 14, 15, 17, 18, 20, 21).
