Cyperaceae : Carex * gracillima Schwein., C. * hitchcockiana Dewey, C. * leptonervia (Fernald) Fernald ; numerous other Carex spp. in Europe. Spencer & Steyskal (1986) listed this species as feeding on C. crus-corvi Shuttlw. ex Kunze, but this was apparently in error since they indicated elsewhere that reared specimens are unknown in North America. Leaf mine. ( Fig. 130 ) A long, whitish corridor, changing direction a few times, with frass in a single blackish lump toward the leaf apex. Puparium. ( Fig. 27 ) Yellowish or reddish to blackish-brown; formed within the mine ( Spencer & Steyskal 1986 ), glued to the floor toward the base of the leaf. Distribution. USA : CA, *MA, MT; Spencer & Steyskal (1986) note that Frick’s (1959) records of IL, IN, MD and SD require verification; Europe.
