COMMENTS. — Two specimens, male and female, were collected alive and taken back to France on board Le Géographe under the name of “porcs-epics vivants” (É. Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire 1804c: 172; Girard 1856: 105 ). Upon arrival in France the animals were kept in the menagerie of the Muséum and fed bread and rice ( Jangoux et al. 2010: 276 ).
