In the western and central Mediterranean it is widely dispersed, and has been recorded in the Aegean Sea ( Arnaud 1987 , Chimenz & Lattanzi 2003 ). Helfer (1936) cited the species (under its synonym Ammothea magnirostris ) from the fishery grounds off Alexandria, but as he counted 8 articles in the palp his specimen(s) might well have been an Achelia species.
