Homoneura (Homoneura) subulifera View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs 19 View FIGURES 13 – 24 , 284–288 View FIGURES 284 – 288 )

Diagnosis. Frons with two wide brown stripes extending to ocellar triangle. Antenna yellow, 1st flagellomere pale brown. Wing clear. Abdominal tergites 5–6 each with a pair of black round lateral spots (only larger spots on tergite 5), sometimes tergite 4 with a pair of brown round lateral spots.

Description. MALE. Body length 3.0– 3.3 mm, wing length 3.5–3.8 mm. FEMALE. Body length 3.0– 3.5 mm, wing length 3.3–3.5 mm.

Head yellow to brownish yellow. Frons about as long as wide and parallel-sided, with two pale brown stripes extending to ocellar triangle; ocellar triangle brown; oc short and hair-like, slightly longer than 1/2 length of anterior or, anterior or longer than 1/2 length of posterior or; gena about 1/5 height of eye. Antenna yellow, 1st flagellomere pale brown, 2.0 times longer than high; arista black except for brownish base, ray plumose, with longest ray as long as height of 1st flagellomere. Proboscis and palpus yellow.

Thorax yellow to brownish yellow. Mesonotum shining, without brown medial stripe; 0+3 dc (1st post-sutural dc behind transverse suture), acr in irregular 8 rows; prsc developed, shorter than 1st post-sutural dc. Legs yellow, all tarsi brown apically; fore femur with 4–5 strong pv and 8 pd, ctenidium with 10–12 short setae; fore tibia with 1 long preapical ad and 1 short apv. Mid femur with 5–6 a and 1 app; mid tibia with 1 strong preapical ad and 2 strong apv. Hind femur with 1 preapical ad; hind tibia with 1 preapical ad and 1 short apv. Wing ( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 13 – 24 ) clear, pale brown; subcostal cell hyaline; costa with 2nd (between R1 and R2+3), 3rd (between R2+3 and R4+5) and 4th (between R4+5 and M1) sections in proportion of 5:1.5:1; r-m before middle of discal cell; ultimate and penultimate sections of M 1 in proportion of 1:1.1; ultimate section of CuA1 about 1/6 of penultimate. Halter yellow.

Abdomen yellow to brownish yellow, tergites 5–6 each with a pair of black round lateral spots (only larger spots on tergite 5, diameter of spot nearly as long as height of exposed part of tergite 5), sometimes tergite 4 with a pair of brown round lateral spots in a few specimens. Male genitalia ( Figs 284–288 View FIGURES 284 – 288 ): syntergosternite semicircular with two setulae around spiracle; epandrium broad in lateral view, slightly incurved apically in posterior view; surstylus short, blunt; hypandrium wide transverse bar-like, hypandrial apodeme short; postgonite short with a long setula; aedeagus subuliform apically, with a pair of acute dorsal middle processes in lateral view; aedeagal apodeme shorter than aedeagus.

Type material. Holotype ♂ ( CAUC), CHINA, Hainan Province: Baisha, Yinggeling National Nature Reserve, Hongmao village, 430 m, 22. V. 2007, Junhua Zhang. Paratypes: CHINA, Hainan Province: 3 ♂, 2 ♀ ( CAUC), data same as above; 3 ♀ ( CAUC), Baisha, Yinggeling National Nature Reserve, Hongmao village, 430 m, 21–22. V. 2007, Kuiyan Zhang.

Distribution. China (Hainan).

Remarks. The new species is very similar to Homoneura (Homoneura) trifasciata (Meijere) from Indonesia (Java) in wing clear, oc short hair-like, abdomen with dark spots, but it can be separated from the latter by the acr having irregular 8 rows; the wing having the ultimate and penultimate sections of M 1 in proportion of 1:1; the abdominal tergites 5–6 having a pair of black lateral spots (only larger spots on tergite 5), sometimes tergite 4 having a pair of brown round lateral spots in a few specimens. In H. (H.) trifasciata , the acr has 12 rows; the proportion of the ultimate and penultimate sections of M1 on wing is 1:2; the abdominal tergites 4–6 have black stripe-like medial spots and a pair of black lateral bands ( Meijere, 1910; Malloch, 1929; Sasakawa, 1992).

Etymology. Latin, subulifera , meaning subulate or cone-shaped, referring to the aedeagus subuliform apically; a feminine adjective.
