ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1856: 65.

TYPE LOCALITY: Rondani gave no type locality in his original description, but later ( Rondani 1859b: 87) added “ in agro parmensi , praesertim in montuosis [ Parmese territory ( Italy), above all on mountains]” .

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Loewia brevifrons ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 307, Pape et al. 1995: 26, Cerretti 2010: 342, O’Hara et al. 2020: 647).

REMARKS: Rondani’s (1856: 65) key for the genus Thrychogena Rondani, 1856 lists Thrychogena brevifrons as its type species, but he did not provide a detailed description, type locality, number or sex of the specimens. He later ( Rondani 1859b: 86) provided specific characters for the male and female and moved the species to the genus Macquartia Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 . Cerretti et al. (2014: 452) designated a lectotype (♂) and paralectotypes (5 ♀♀) but did not mention an additional male and female in the MSNC and a male in the OUMNH (all are paralectotypes).
