( Figs 130, 131 View FIGURES 124–131 , 176 View FIGURES 174–176 , 217 View FIGURE 217 )

Diagnosis. Telemiades amazonica Siewert, Mielke & Casagrande , sp. nov. is distinguished from other species of the “ trenda group” by the valva with distal margin modified in a hook–like process.

Description. Head: frons and vertex dark brown. Eyes surrounded by yellow scales. Labial palpi with first and second segments dark brown with yellow; third segment dark brown. Antennae dark brown, base of each segment cream from half to apiculus; nudum of 25 segments.

Thorax: dorsally dark brown; ventrally dark brown and yellow.

FW: length of males 15–18 mm (n=2). DFW ( Fig. 130 View FIGURES 124–131 ): ground color dark brown; three dark brown spots: two cellular (upper and lower) and one discal in CuA 2 +2A; eight dark brown submarginal spots in R 3 –R 4, R 4 –R 5, R 5 –M 1, M 1 –M 2, M 2 –M 3, M 3 –CuA 1, CuA 1 –CuA 2 and CuA 2 –2A.

DHW ( Fig. 130 View FIGURES 124–131 ): ground color dark brown; four discal dark brown rounded spots in Sc+R 1 –Rs, upper cell, low- er cell and CuA 2 –2A; six dark brown submarginal spots as an irregular band in Rs–M 1, M 1 –M 2, M 2 –M 3, M 3 –CuA 1, CuA 1 –CuA 2 and CuA 2 –2A.

VFW ( Fig. 131 View FIGURES 124–131 ): as DFW; spots darker.

VHW ( Fig. 131 View FIGURES 124–131 ): as DHW; spots darker.

Male genitalia ( Fig. 176 View FIGURES 174–176 ): tegumen rounded; posterior margin with two pairs of lateral apophysis extending to half of uncus, the proximal twice the length of distal. Anterior projection of saccus triangular, anterior margin rounded. Uncus short, about 1/3 the size of tegumen; posterior margin with two lateral apophysis and with central region curved ventrally. Valva rectangular, twice as long as wide; costa rectangular; distal margin modified in a hook–like process; sacculus rectangular, about 1/2 the length of valva. Fultura inferior distally bifid, with distal margin rounded and ventral portion truncated. Aedeagus cylindrical; insertion of manica in the middle of aedeagus; opening for ejaculatory bulb rounded; distal margin truncated; opening for vesica dorsal and lateral left, about 1/2 of size of aedeagus; one pair of spines–like projections on the distal opening of aedeagus; cornuti as two lines of sharp spines, all with same size.

Female unknown.

Distribution. Telemiades amazonica sp. nov. is known from two areas of Brazilian Amazon (Marechal Thaumaturgo, Acre State, and Barcelos, Amazonas State) and from Peru (Shintuya, Madre de Díos).

Etymology. The specific epithet is a reference to the known distribution of this species in Amazonian areas.

Taxonomic discussion. Despite the phenotypic similarity with the other species of the “ trenda group”, the morphology of the male genitalia of T. amazonica sp. nov. is unique. The modified hook–like process of the distal margin of the valva is similar to the condition found in species of the “ amphion group”, mainly T. marpesus . However, the morphology of other structures of the genitalia and the wings indicates its proximity with the species of the “ trenda group”, mainly the presence of a pair of spines on the distal opening of the aedeagus.
