Material examined. Holotype. 1♂, Prov. Guangdong, Yingde, Shimentai , 4.VI.2008 ( SCAU). Paratypes. 1♂, data as holotype ( NSMT); 2♂, same locality, 5.VII.2011 ( Fig. 23 View FIGURES 21 – 28 , Gen. prep. AK745) ( CAK); 1♂, Vietnam, Thu Thien Hue Prov., Bach Ma, ca. 1400 m, 6.V.2003 ( Fig. 24 View FIGURES 21 – 28 , NSMT); 2♂, Vietnam, Cao Bang Prov., Ba Be, ca. 1400 m, 30.IV.2005 ( NSMT).

Description. Male ( Figs 23, 24 View FIGURES 21 – 28 ). Wingspan 33 mm; forewing length 14 mm; body length 17 mm. Most body parts black. Head: scales on labial palps ventrally with white tips. Thorax: hind coxa dirty white, ventral edges of hind femur white. Forewing: opaque, black with a purple sheen; with small remnant PTA at the base; ventrally similar with crème scales at the base. Hindwing: transparent parts extensive, appearing somewhat rusty tinged in outer half; discal spot relatively narrow; area between veins Cu1 and Cu2 opaque; costa yellowish at the base. Abdomen: tergite 2 with a narrow white posterior border; sternites 3, 4 and partly 5 crème white; anal tuft large, laterally flattened, with few white scales.

Genitalia. Male (Gen. prep. AK745, Fig. 37 View FIGURES 36 – 37 ). Valva relatively short, apically pointed; multifurcate setae with each 8 finger like projections in dorsal part, simple setae in ventral part; basal patch with strong simple setae; with a simple line of hand-shaped setae medially; saccus short and narrow; gnathos with two lateral short fish hook-like processes, arched downwards at the tip; uncus straight and narrow; phallus relatively narrow, apically with a small bilobed processus.

Variability. 31–38 mm wingspan.

Diagnosis. This species is a typical representative of the genus Scoliokona . It is somewhat similar to Scoliokona kalliesi Arita & Riefenstahl, 2004 , which is known from Burma and Thailand. The latter species, however, has orange antennae, labial palps and patagia and more extensive dark marking on the hindwing.
