Diagnosis. Antenna 1: peduncular article 1 with proximoventral swelling; accessory flagellum scale-like. Mandibles: left incisor with 5 teeth; left lacinia mobilis with 5 teeth; left accessory setal row with 3 broad robust setae and 2 intermediate plumose setae;.right incisor with 5 teeth; right lacinia mobilis with 1 large tooth and minutely denticulate margin; right accessory setal row with 2 broad robust setae and 3 intermediate plumose setae; mandibular palp long, slender. Maxilla 1: outer plates each with 9 setal-teeth. Gnathopod 2: carpochelate in male, subchelate in female. Peraeopods 3 to 7: dactyli 3 to 5 directed posteriorly, dactyli 6 to 7 directed anteriorly. Peraeopod 4: merus long, not expanded posteriorly. Peraeopod 5: coxa in female larger than in male, with well-developed fringe of long setae; dactylus with large unguis and 2 small accessory spines. Peraeopod 6: dactylus with large unguis and 2 small accessory spines. Peraeopod 7: dactylus with large unguis and 1 small accessory spine. Pleopod 2: inner ramus reduced, I-articulate. Pleopod 3: reduced 1­ articulate ramus. Uropod 2 with one ramus. Uropod 3 with one vestigial ramus bearing small recurved spines.

Type species. Runanga coxalis J.L. Barnard, 1961 .

Species composition. Runanga contains two species: R. coxalis J.L. Barnard, 1961 and R. wairoa McCain, 1969 .

Remarks. Budnikova (1989) pointed out that in addition to the vestigial accessory flagellum, the shape of the head and the telson help to distinguish Runanga . Two other characters (elongate merus on peraeopod 4 and strongly seto.se female coxa 5) also help to distinguish Runanga from other genera in the Cerapus clade.
