Punctozotroctes inhamum Martins, Galileo & Limeira-de-Oliveira, 2009 View in CoL

(Fig. 5)

Punctozotroctes inhamum Martins, Galileo & Limeira-de-Oliveira, 2009 View in CoL : 241; Monné, 2016: 339 (cat.). Punctozotroctes hovorei View in CoL ; Martins & Galileo, 2007: 188 (misidentification).

Martins & Galileo (2007) recorded Punctozotroctes hovorei Tavakilian & Néouze, 2007 View in CoL from Brazil (Pará, Cachimbo) based on a single male (Fig. 5). A recent examination of this specimen reveals that it is a male of P. inhamum Martins, Galileo & Limeira-de-Oliveira, 2009 View in CoL , described from Brazil (Maranhão, Caxias). The holotype of the later is deposited in the MZSP collection and allows us to be sure about the identity of the specimen mistakenly confused with P. hovorei View in CoL . According to Martins & Galileo (2007) (translated): “The color pattern that is closest to Punctozotroctes inhamum View in CoL sp. nov. is that of P. hovorei Tavakilian & Néouze, 2007 View in CoL . P. inhamum View in CoL differs by the elytral punctation being much finer and only slightly distinct dorsally from middle to apex; by only a few black elytral bands in P. inhamum View in CoL , while they are abundant in P. hovorei View in CoL . Furthermore, the prothorax is more deeply constricted at the base in P. hovorei View in CoL than in P. inhamum View in CoL .” Lastly, P. hovorei View in CoL has a more robust body shape than P. inhamum View in CoL .

Accordingly, P. hovorei (Fig. 6) is formally excluded from the Brazilian fauna and remains known only from French Guiana.
