Poterium ancistroides f. minor Pau ex Font Quer, Iter Marocc. 1929 View in CoL nº 225 (1930a), in sched.

= Sanguisorba ancistroides (Desf.) Ces.

Ind. loc.:—“ Hab. in fissuris rupium calc. supra Cala Blanca ( Melilla) , ad 200 m. alt.; 7 aprilis”

Lectotype (designated here):— In fissuris rupium calc. supra Cala Blanca ( Melilla) , 200 m, 7 April 1929, Font Quer 225-1929 (lectotype BC 98063 ! [https://www.ibb.csic.es/herbari/ JPEG / BC98063 .jpg]; isolectotypes BCN 72411 View Materials [photo!], MA 56760 !, MA 56761 !, MPU 004717 View Materials [photo!], P 00124455 [photo!])

Notes:—The description on the label is authored by Font Quer, so the name should be attributed to “Pau ex Font Quer” as indicated by Navarro & Muñoz Garmendia (1998). The MPU and P specimens bear an original label handwritten by Maire as Sanguisorba minor var. font-queri Maire ; this name was proposed by Maire (1949) using these specimens as original material. For this reason, the MPU specimen was labelled as holotype of Maire’s variety by Madaure, Durand, and Loup in 2004. This var. font-queri should be considered as an illegitimate name, because it is based on the type of a previously published name (in this case f. minor ), as stated by Art. 52.1 of the ICN ( Turland et al. 2018). The BC specimen was identified as Sanguisorba ancistroides by Romo in 1995.

Notes:—On the original label,Font Quer proposed two alternative names“ Pyrethrum pallidum var. longipectinatum Pau ” and “ Leucanthemum longipectinatum F. Q., in litt.” with a single description. Later authors ( Emberger & Maire 1929, Sennen & Mauricio 1934, Heywood 1975) have taken as a basionym the name and authorship of Font Quer. The BC specimen was labelled as Leucanthemopsis longipectinata by Vogt and Oberprieler in 1995.

Notes:— Vázquez et al. (2018) designated as type the specimen “ BC 015753”, but there are no Quercus L. specimens at Herb. BC with this number. In fact, the reference corresponds to a sheet of this taxon preserved at Herb. BCN, a collection that is not mentioned in the methodology of the paper. Therefore, this lectotypification is not valid, and should be superseded according to Art. 9.16 of Turland et al. (2018). The GDA specimen was labelled as syntype by Vizoso in 2013, and the MPU one as isotype by Sennedot and Scouppe in 2006. The BC specimen was identified as Q. canariensis Willd. by Pérez Latorre in 2005. According to Vázquez et al. (2018) these plants are morphologically similar to Q. canariensis , but an in-depth study of its pubescence allows the segregation of Q. canariensis s. s.

1,2,3 Rosa pouzinii f. mauritii Sennen & Pau ex R.Keller in Maire, Bull. Soc. Hist. Nat. Afrique N. 26(7): 204 (1935)

= Rosa pouzinii Tratt.

Ind. loc.:—“Plantes d’Espagne, nº 8781”

Lectotype (designated here):— Maroc: Metalza, Aïn-Zora, base du Tendri, 1050 m, 26 May 1933, Sennen & Mauricio 8781 (lectotype BC-Sennen 823966! [https://www.ibb.csic.es/herbari/ JPEG / BC823966 View Materials .jpg]; isolectotypes BC 141727 !, MA 57673 !, MPU 009319 View Materials [photo!])

Notes:—The specimen was distributed in the exsiccata Plantes d’Espagne 1933 nº 8781, and originally labelled as “ R. pouzinii var. mauritii Pau & Sennen ” without a description. The first description of this taxon was done by Keller in Maire (1935) at the rank of form, and one year later by Sennen (1936b: 189) as var. mauritii Sennen (without mentioning Pau). This latter name is the one that appears in Silvestre (2002) and APD (2020). Carrasco (1975) mentions it as R. pouzinni var. mauritti Pau & Sennen with the reference to Sennen (1936a: 95). The BC and MA specimens were identified as R. pouzinii by Silvestre in 1995.

2,3 Rosa pouzinii var. parvipetala Pau & Font Quer in Font Quer, Iter Marocc. 1927 nº 267 (1928), in sched., nom. nud.

Rosa × toddiae Wolley-Dod [ Rosa micrantha Borrer ex Sm. × R. canina L.]

Note:—The accepted name follows Silvestre (2002), although in APD (2020) this variety is linked to Rosa pouzinii .

1,2,3 Rosa pouzinii var. yebalica Pau & Font Quer in Font Quer, Iter Marocc. 1928 nº 167 (1929), in sched.

Rosa × toddiae Wolley-Dod [ Rosa micrantha Borrer ex Sm. × R. canina L.]

Ind. loc.:—“Hab. in quercetis ilicis montis Kelti (Yebala), 1800 m. alt.; 18 junii”

Lectotype (designated here):—In quercetis ilicis montis Kelti (Yebala), 1800 m, 18 June 1928, Font Quer 167- 1928 (lectotype BC 20777 [upper left-hand specimen!] [https://www.ibb.csic.es/herbari/ JPEG / BC20777 .jpg]; isolectotypes BCN 18018 View Materials [photo!], GDA 38329 View Materials [photo!], MA 57668 !, MPU 006414 View Materials [photo!])

Notes:—The GDA specimen was labelled as syntype by Vizoso in 2013. The BC sheet bears a revision label by Silvestre in 1996, who identified two taxa: 4 samples as R. micrantha × R. canina , and one as R. micrantha . According to this revision, Silvestre (2002) synonymizes var. yebalica pro parte under both taxa. APD (2020) includes this variety under R. pouzinii . According to Silvestre & Montserrat (1998), R. micrantha leaflets are +densely glandular beneath, while the hybrid has only a few glands. The sparsely glandular leaflets mentioned in the description of var. yebalica are therefore close to those of the hybrid. The selected lectotype among the four samples in the BC sheet is the biggest one with flowers.

1,2,3 Rosa sicula var. maroccana Pau & Font Quer in Font Quer, Iter Marocc. 1927 nº 268 (1928), in sched., pro var., nom. illeg.

Notes:—This name should be considered illegitimate according to Art. 53.4 ( Turland et al. 2018), since there exists a previously published homonym by Magnier (1884: 69). The GDA specimen was labelled as syntype by Vizoso in 2013. The BC specimen was identified as Rosa sicula × R. canina by Silvestre in 1995. In APD (2020) this variety is linked to R. sicula , but according to Silvestre (2002) it should be synonymized under Rosa sicula × R. canina .

Notes:—The BC specimen collected from Beni Hozmar in 1921 was labelled by Pau as “ R. chalepensis var. hosmariensis Pau ”, but this name was never published. According to Pau (1924a) all plants of Ruta genus from Beni Hozmar belong to the forma tetuanensis . The BC specimen was identified by Martinell as R. angustifolia in 2004. The accepted name follows San Miguel (2015).

Notes:—The GDA specimen was labelled as syntype by Vizoso in 2013. In BC there are two sheets of original material; the chosen lectotype is the one in better condition. The BC specimens were identified as S. mouretii by Rosúa in 1986 ( BC 98301 ) and by Sáez in 1997 ( BC 810824 View Materials ) .

1,2,3 Salvia pluripartita Pau in Mem. Real Soc. Esp. Hist. Nat. 12: 374 (1924a)

Lectotype (designated here):—Beni Hozmar, 8 May 1921, Pau s.n. (lectotype MA 103844 !; isolectotypes BC 47666 !, MA 103845 !)

Notes:—The BC specimen was identified as S. barrelieri by Rosúa in 1986. Rosúa (1987: 188) mentions as lectotypes two sheets from Beni Hozmar ( BC 98302! and BC 98303!), both collected according to him on 27 May 1924. But in fact, both specimens were collected in 1930 and distributed in Iter Marrocanum 1930. The first one from Beni Hozmar, nº 570, was collected in 27 May 1930 and the second one, nº 571, from Larache on 30 May 1930, some years after the publication of the taxon by Pau (1924a). Because original material exists (samples from Beni Hozmar collected by Pau during his trip in Yebala in 1921), this typification has to be superseded according to Art. 9.19 ( Turland et al. 2018). The specimen selected as lectotype bears the original label of this trip.

1,2,3 Sarothamnus baeticus var. africanus Pau & Font Quer in Font Quer, Iter Marocc. 1927 nº 286 (1928), in sched.

= Cytisus arboreus (Desf.) DC.

Ind. loc.:—“Hab. in quercetis collis Ferrah dictis, supra Targuist, 1200 m. alt.; 29 junii”

Lectotype (designated by Auvray & Malecot 2013: 110):—In quercetis collis Ferrah dictis, supra Targuist, 1200 m, 29 June 1927, Font Quer 286-1927 (lectotype BC 13572! [https://www.ibb.csic.es/herbari/ JPEG / BC 13572. jpg]; isolectotypes BCN 70199 [photo!], MA 60447!*, G *, GDA 34641 [photo!], MPU 010037 [photo!]*) Notes:—In their lectotypfication Auvray & Malecot (2013) wrongly cited the variety of Pau, naming it “ Cytisus baeticus var. africanus Pau & Font Quer ” as in Carrasco (1975) and Sennen (1936a: 108). Auvray & Malecot (2013) also mentioned as isolectotypes the specimens at MA, G, and MPU. The GDA specimen was labelled as syntype by Vizoso in 2013. The BC specimen was identified as C. arboreus subsp. baeticus by Talavera in 1995, but Auvray & Malecot (2013) and APD (2020) do not accept any infraspecific taxa.

1,2,3 Sarothamnus baeticus var. tetuanensis Pau in Font Quer, Iter Marocc. 1928 nº 180 (1929), in sched.

= Cytisus arboreus (Desf.) DC.

Ind. loc.:—“Hab. in quercetis suberis vallis Lau, solo siliceo, 500 m. alt.; 12 majii”

Lectotype (designated by Auvray & Malecot 2013: 110):—In quercetis suberis vallis Lau, 500 m, 12 May 1928, Font Quer 180-1928 (lectotype MA 60451 ! [http://colecciones.rjb.csic.es/#cardAdv.php?CatalogNumber=MA-01-00060451]; isolectotypes BC 13571 !*, BCN 71171 View Materials [photo!], GDA 34643 View Materials [photo!], MPU 006411 View Materials [photo!]*, MPU 006412 View Materials [photo!]*)

Notes:—As in the previous case, Auvray & Malecot (2013) wrongly cited the variety of Pau; they reported “ Cytisus baeticus var. tetuanensis Pau & Font Quer ”, as in Carrasco (1975). APD (2020) cites this name at the form rank . Auvray & Malecot (2013) also mention the BC and MPU specimens as isolectotypes. The GDA specimen was labelled as syntype by Vizoso in 2013. The BC specimen was identified as C. arboreus subsp. baeticus by Talavera in 1995, but, as mentioned above, Auvray & Malecot (2013) and APD (2020) do not accept infraspecific taxa.

1,2,3 Sarothamnus megalanthus Pau & Font Quer in Font Quer, Iter Marocc. 1927 nº 288 (1928), in sched.

Cytisus striatus subsp. megalanthus (Pau & Font Quer) Rivas Mart. & Belmonte

Ind. loc.:—“Hab. in quercetis juxta Bu-Meziat (Atlante rhiphaeo), 1700 m. alt.; 16 junii”

Lectotype (designated by Auvray & Malecot 2013: 106; second-step designated here):—In quercetis juxta Bu-Meziat (Atlante rhiphaeo), 1700 m, 16 June 1927, Font Quer 288-1927 (lectotype MPU 006310 View Materials [photo!] [https:// herbier.umontpellier.fr/hv/wakka.php?wiki=PagePrincipale/iframe&action=detail&ordre=p&codebarre= MPU 00 6310]; isolectotypes BC 13586 !*, BCN 17309 View Materials [photo!], GDA 34672 View Materials [photo!], FI 000727 [photo!], G 00022416 [photo!]*, JE 00014562 [photo!], MA 60386 !*, MPU 006311 View Materials [photo!])

Notes:— Auvray & Malecot (2013) designated the specimen of the Iter Maroccanum preserved at Herb. MPU as lectotype, due to the presence of both flowers and fruit and its availability online, without indicating the catalogue number. But currently, in MPU there is one sheet with flowers ( MPU 006311) and another with fruit ( MPU 006310), probably parts of the same specimen. Therefore, according to Art. 9.17 ( Turland et al. 2018) a second-step lectotype should be designated, since both have different barcode numbers. MPU 006310 is selected, because it is the only one that bears the original Iter Maroccanum label. Auvray & Malecot (2013) also cites as isolectotypes the BC, G, and MA specimens. The GDA specimen was labelled as syntype by Vizoso in 2013. The BC and G specimens were identified as Sarothamnus striatus (Hill) Samp. by Talavera in 1995.

Notes:—The selected lectotype is the MA specimen, since it has a complete plant with roots. The GDA specimen was labelled as syntype by Vizoso in 2013. The BC specimen was identified as Satureja alpina subsp. meridionalis (Nyman) Greuter & Burdet by Montserrat & Sáez in 2001, and the MA specimen as Acinos alpinus ( L.) Moench by Morales in 2000s. It should be noted that Morales (2010) does not consider any infraspecific rank for this species.

1,2,3 Saxifraga werneri Font Quer & Pau in Font Quer, Cavanillesia 4: 29 (1931a)

Ind. loc.:—“Hab. in saxosis calcareis cacuminis montis Dj. Lexhab (Gomara-Imp. Maroccano), ad 2100−2150 m. alt., ubi florieram, d. 26 Junii 1930”

Lectotype (designated here):— In rupestribus cacuminis mont. Dj. Lexhab (Gomara), 2150 m, 25 June 1930, Font Quer 278-1930 (lectotype BC 812961 View Materials ! Notes:— The original material was labelled as cotype (= syntype) and collected on 25 June 1930, although in the protologue it is indicated as 26 June 1930. In Herb. MPU there are also two specimens collected by Maire from “montis Kraa” ( MPU 007141 View Materials [photo!], MPU 007142 View Materials [photo!]), a locality that corresponds indeed to Djbel Lakraa (the highest peak in Talassemtane National Park ) as the name “ Dj. Lexhab ”. Because the elevation at which these specimens were gathered is not the same (2100 m), they are not included as isolectotypes; but they are original material, as the gathering matches the data in the protologue. Determination of the BC specimen was confirmed by Vargas in 1997 .

Notes:—The specimen was identified as Scabiosa atropurpurea L. by Romo in 1995, but according to Tahiri & Ibn Tattou (2014) all the plants from Morocco have to be attributed to Sixalix atropurpurea subsp. maritima . APD (2020) cites this taxon as Scabiosa maritima var. ateridoi Pau , but this name should be considered a combination published by Sennen & Mauricio (1934: 55) according to Art. 41.3 ( Turland et al. 2018).
