Diagnosis. This species is distinguished from many of the Australasian Oecetis species by the absence of modified tergites on segment VIII and forward. The species is unique among Oecetis in the shape of the coxopodites, which in lateral view are tall and with three branches directed dorsad and posterad; in ventral view forming wide plates that almost meet mesally. Oecetis triramosa sp. nov. resembles O. australis ( Banks 1920) , from Australia, in the shape of the coxopodites, its long and slightly curving posterior spine of tergum X, and the sharply pointed lobes on the main branch of tergum X. Oecetis triramosa sp. nov. is separated from O. australis by having a two-lobed main branch of tergum X, wider superior appendages in dorsal view, and more-rounded basal parts of coxopodites in ventral view.

Description, male. Length of each forewing 5.3–7.6 mm (N = 24). Genitalia ( Figs 67–72 View FIGURES 67–72 ) about as long as tall in lateral view. Segment IX oriented vertically, ventral part oval in lateral view, much longer than dorsal part in lateral view; on each side anterior margin uniformly convex; ventral half of posterior margin with short lower posterolateral process of segment IX; Upper posterolateral process of segment IX absent; longitudinal apodeme absent; acrotergite of segment IX forming pair of wide wart-like clusters of punctures, each cluster about twice as wide as the width of posterior spine in dorsal view; pair of dorsal semimembranous processes of segment IX short, stout, directed posterad; membranous areas absent. Main branch of tergum X forming two lateral lobes, needleshaped and apically pointed in lateral view, about twice as long as superior appendages, semimembranous, straight along their length, directed posteroventrad, without setae; in dorsal view each lobe forming narrowly cone-shaped process, sharply rounded posteriorly. Posterior spine of tergum X originating at base of main branch, parallel-sided, narrow along its length in lateral and dorsal views, curving slightly ventrad from distal two-thirds; apex narrowly rounded in dorsal view. Superior appendages about one-third as long as posterior spine in lateral view, dorsal margin almost straight, ventral margin convex; broad in dorsal view, situated closely to each other. Each coxopodite with three thick, equally long, rounded posterior branches: one dorsal and two posterior; dorsal branch thumb-like with long setae; posteriorly oriented branches with megasetae mesally; in ventral view broad, mesobasal plates produced posterad with rounded ends. Phallus as long as rest of genitalia, almost tube-shaped, anteriorly slightly taller than posterior part and separated from posterior part by small constriction, with three long posteriorly oriented and apically hooked spines; base narrower that posterior part in ventral view, widening at middle.
