Nyctiophylax (Paranyctiophylax) vestitus , new species group

Species in this group are characterized by having short, trilobed gonopods and small dorsal paraproctal processes. The gonopod lobes are as follows: (1) a dorsal lobe surmounting the gonopods; (2) a dorsomesal lobe that is frequently long and slender; and (3) a ventrobasal, blunt lobe appearing as a large “elbow.” Furthermore, the cerci are uniformly short and semicircular; the dorsal paraproctal processes are small; the ventral paraproctal processes are uniformly slender, downward–curving, and armed with few setae on their outer apical surface.

This species group is endemic to the Nearctic Region and comprises 11 species: N. affinis (Banks) , N. banksi Morse , N. barrorum Morse , N. celta Denning , N. denningi Morse , N. moestus Banks , N. morsei Lago and Harris , N. nephophilus Flint , N. serratus Lago and Harris , N. uncus Ross 1944 , and N. vestitus (Hagen) .
