The holotype and a portion of the paratypes of Lycoriella longirostris Yang, Zhang & Yang, 1995 , here treated as a junior synonym of M. megalocornuta : 1 male, Zhejiang, Kaihua, Mt. Diagnosis. The species is characterized by its ovate gonostylus with a strong apical tooth arising from a welldeveloped dorsal lobe, two to three flagellate setae on the ventral mesial margin of gonostylus; hypopygium with a small conical setose intercoxal lobe; tegmen nearly rectangular and apically truncate.

Description (male). Head dark brown; antenna, thorax and hypopygium brown; palps, legs and abdomen pale brown; wings fumose.

Head (Figs 5D, 6A). Eye bridge with 2–3 rows of facets. Prefrons with 10–15 setae. Clypeus with 1–2 setae. Maxillary palps 3-segmented, basal segment with 1 seta. Length/width index of 4th flagellomere: 2.26–2.93.

Thorax. Anterior pronotum with 3–7 setae, episternum 1 with 2–7 setae. Wings ( Fig. 15 View FIGURE 15 D). Wing length 1.59– 2.24 mm, width/length: 0.43–0.48. c/w: 0.62–0.77. R1/R: 0.53–0.80. M, CuA and stM nonsetose. r-m with 0–3 setae. Legs (Fig. 5B). Length of spur/width of foretibia 0.86–1.17. Length of femur/length of metatarsus: foreleg 1.18–1.38. Length of metatarsus/length of tibia: foreleg 0.57–0.63, hind leg 0.46–0.66. Length of hind tibia/length of thorax 1.17–1.42. Claws toothed.

Hypopygium (Figs 5A–C). The gonocoxite as long as the gonostylus. The gonostylus ovate, densely setose on the apicoventral part, with a strong apical tooth arising from a well-developed dorsal lobe, two to three flagellate setae on the ventral mesial margin of gonostylus. Hypopygium with a small conical setose intercoxal lobe. Tegmen nearly rectangular and apically truncate. Aedeagus relatively short. Sternite 10 with 1 seta on each half.

Distribution. China (Zhejiang, Fujian, Taiwan, Fig. 16 View FIGURE 16 ); Japan ( Mohrig & Menzel, 1992).

Remarks. The nearly rectangular and apically truncate tegmen is an important characteristic of M. megalocornuta . However, Mohrig et al. (1992) and Menzel & Mohrig (2000) gave neither detailed description nor an illustration for the sclerotized tegmen. Rudzinski (2006) recorded the species from Taiwan, providing detailed description of the sclerotized parameral apodeme in tegmen forming in a rim, as well as clear illustration. In this study, a long series of materials are recorded from various localities in continental China.

Yang et al. (1995) described Lycoriella longirostris , which was characterized by the maxillary palps 3- segmented, the foretibia bordered with a posteroventral patch of modified setae, and a long apical tooth on the gonostylus, based on the holotype and 15 paratypes from Mt. Gutianshan, Zhejiang, China. Among this material, the holotype and ten paratypes were now found deposited in the ZAFU collection, and the rest of paratypes were not located. After further observation of this material, the parameral apodeme of tegmen are found continuously sclerotized and forming a central strip on the dorsal side, which is a diagnostic character of the genus Mohrigia Menzel. Moreover , Lycoriella is characterized by having one flagellate seta on the medial side of the gonostylus, but two to six flagellate setae are found in all of these type specimens. Therefore, we determined that this material should belong to the genus Mohrigia .

However, after careful examination of the above eleven specimens, we confirmed the holotype and seven paratypes belong to M. megalocornuta ( Mohrig & Menzel, 1992) (= Lycoriella longirostris, Yang, Zhang & Yang, 1995 , new synonym) (Figs 5A–C), in having the diagnostic characteristics that gonostylus ovate and with the strong apical tooth arising from a well-developed dorsal lobe, and the tegmen is nearly rectangular and apically truncate.

But, the remaining three paratypes [SM10009–10011] are quite different in having an inflated gonostylus deeply bilobed and a much larger intercoxal lobe on the ventral base of hypopygium. During our study on Chinese Sciaridae , another two specimens from Hubei and Zhejiang provinces were found to be similar to the three specimens in their external morphology and structures of hypopygium. Based on the common differential characteristics, we described them below as M. inflata sp. nov. ( Figs 4 View FIGURE 4 A, B).
