Type material. Holotype, male, CNU-HET-LB2006648p/c (part and counterpart). Paratypes, 2 male, CNU-HET- LB2006651, CNU-HET-LB2011249; 1 female, CNU-HET-LB2011237p/c; 3 sex unknown, CNU-HET- LB2006650p/c, CNU-HET-LB2011243, CNU-HET-LB2011244.

Type locality and horizon. Huangbanjigou Village, Beipiao City, Liaoning Province, China, Yixian Formation. Early Cretaceous.

Etymology. The species name is derived from Latin word “ maculosa ”, meaning “many spots”. Gender feminine.

Diagnosis. First antennal segment swollen. Eyes close to anterior margin of pronotum. Large pale spots present on pronotum, scutellum and forewing: pronotum with two pairs of spots, scutellum with one pair of spots, and forewings with six pairs of spots. Scutellum longer than pronotum on midline.

Description. Body oval, relatively large, 2.1 times as long as wide. Pronotum, scutellum and corium covered with short decumbent pubescence ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 E).

Head slightly longer or subequal to length of pronotum on midline. Antennae slender, four-segmented, ratio of antennal segments I: II: III: IV=1.0: 3.4: 1.8: 1.8. Labrum triangular ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 A), rostrum reaching hind coxae. Ocelli round, closer to margins of eyes than to each other. Eyes reniform, moderately protruded, contiguous to anterior margin of pronotum.

Pronotum subtrapezoid, 2.8 times as wide as long; anterior and posterior margins of pronotum concave, lateral margins straight, anterior and posterior angles feebly rounded. A pair of callouses concave, not reaching to lateral margins. Two pairs of spots on pronotum ( Figs. 1 View FIGURE 1 A, C): one pair elongate oval, near lateral margins of pronotum; the other pair round near posterior margin of pronotum. Scutellum slightly longer than pronotum on midline, nearly equilateral triangle. Two large round spots near apex of scutellum ( Figs. 1 View FIGURE 1 A, C).

Tarsal formula: 3-3-3. Fore femora subequal to length of tibiae, tibiae 2.1 times as long as tarsi, tarsomere I: II: III = 1.0: 4.5: 5.0 ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 H); mid tibiae subequal to femora in length, and 2.3 times as long as tarsi, tarsomere I: II: III = 1.0: 5.0: 3.3 ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 H); hind legs longest, tibiae about 1.7 times as long as femora, and 2.8 times as long as tarsi, tarsomere I: II: III = 1.0: 6.0: 6.0 ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 I). All tarsi with two claws.

Forewing macropterous ( Figs. 2 View FIGURE 2 , 3 View FIGURE 3 D), 0.6 times as long as body, and at most reaching to apex of abdomen. Forewings with six pairs of spots ( Figs. 2 View FIGURE 2 , 3 View FIGURE 3 D, F): first pair at base of forewings; second pair elongate oval, along medial fractures; third pair near innermost cells; fourth and fifth pair in contact with each other and at both sides of costal fractures respectively; and sixth pair near apex of forewings. Clavus longer than half forewing length, anterior margin sinuate, claval commissure longer than scutellum length at midline; hypocostal ridge and associated secondary hypocostal ridge present; costal fracture long, reaching to middle of corium, medial fracture short; membrane with five closed cells, outermost cell elongated triangle, almost as long as the adjacent cell, and distinctly shorter than other three cells.

In male, the first seven abdominal segments almost subequal in length, abdominal segment VIII short, nearly half length of the abdominal segment VII ( Figs. 1 View FIGURE 1 B, 3C), posterior margin of abdominal segment VIII sinuate.
