Diagnosis. Species of group II-C, similar to L. bogotana Badonnel (1986c) in measurements, sculpture of vertex and thoracic and abdominal terga, chaetotaxy of head and thorax, possession of five ommatidia in the eye (female), and in shape of common trunk of gonapophyses; differing in symmetry of lacinial tips (asymmetrical in L. bogotana ), in presence of discal setae (seta D), and slightly in color. Differing from other II-C species with fewer than 7 ommatidia as noted in key.

Female color. Eyes black. Head and thorax medium brown; postclypeus slightly darker than rest of head; abdomen slightly paler brown than head and thorax, with a dark brown line along anterior margin of each of terga 4–8; antennae and maxillary palpi pale brown; legs colored as abdomen.

Female general structural characters. Five ommatidia in eye (n=6; 1 individual with 6 in one eye, 5 in other, another with 7 in one eye, 5 in other). No indication of ecdysial lines of head. Sensilla r and s of P4 slen- der and setiform, others short ( Fig. 20 View FIGURES 19 – 27 ). Lacinial tips ( Fig. 21 View FIGURES 19 – 27 ) symmetrical, normal for the genus. Mesothoracic parapsidal regions indicated by change in orientation of cuticular sculpture. Abdominal terga 1 and 2: tg1 with broad well-sclerotized median area separated by membrane from a smaller well-sclerotized lateral area on each side; tg2 with sclerotized anterior strip separated by membrane from slightly broader posterior strip. Remaining terga typical of section II. Base of ovipositor valvulae extremely long, slender, bifid ( Fig. 22 View FIGURES 19 – 27 ). T-shaped sclerite ( Fig. 23 View FIGURES 19 – 27 ) with stout stem, arms short, tapering abruptly. Spermapore lacking ornamentation.

Female sculpture of integument. Vertex ( Fig. 29 View FIGURES 28 – 30 ) with distinct areoles, mostly wider than long, separated by arched depressed lines with scalloped edges, bearing tubercles of moderate size tending to be arranged in single or double transverse rows. Synthoracic notum similar to vertex but tubercles larger and some anteromedial areoles bare or with only peripheral tubercles. Abdominal tg1 with distinct areoles medially, the anteriors bare, posteriors with tubercles ca. same size as those of synthoracic notum. Tg2 and anterior regions of terga 3–7 ( Fig. 30 View FIGURES 28 – 30 ) and clunium with poorly defined areoles densely covered with tubercles of same size as those of vertex.

Female chaetotaxy. Vertex with scattered setae of moderate length (~ 12–14µm, distances 14–20µm). Pronotum ( Fig. 24 View FIGURES 19 – 27 ) with long SI (~ 24µm); prosternum ( Fig. 25 View FIGURES 19 – 27 ) with 4 setae in anterior arch. Synthorax with SII differentiated, but relatively short ( Fig. 24 View FIGURES 19 – 27 ), about half to slightly more than half length of SI; anterior row of mesosternum with 8–10 setae. Abdominal tg1 with single transverse row of setae, slightly longer than those on more posterior terga (~ 13µm), along hind margins of sclerotized areas; tg2–7 each with 3 transverse rows of short setae (~ 9µm); terminal segments ( Fig. 26 View FIGURES 19 – 27 ): M 8 not differentiated; tg8 with abundant short setae of same length as preceding tergum, likewise tg9, but Md 9 clearly differentiated (~ 54µm); tg10 with setae D (~ 54µm); Md and Mv (both ~ 62µm) clearly differentiated; setae E shorter than Md 10 (~ 53µm).

Female measurements (N= 5 for all except 2 for P4; means follow ranges in parentheses). BL= 925–1022 (977); V= 233–248 (241); P4= 74–77; FL= 216–230 (223); FW= 114–135 (123); T= 175–188 (182); t1= 64– 71 (67); t2= 25–29 (27); t3= 32–43 (39).

Male color. Head medium brown; antennae much lighter brown. Thorax, legs, and strongly sclerotized portions of abdomen slightly lighter brown than head. Each of abdominal terga 3–8 with a slender dark brown transverse line bordering its anterior margin.

Male general structural characters. Five ommatidia in compound eye. Sensilla r and s of P4 long and slen- der. Lacinial tip as in the female. Mesothoracic parapsidal regions indicated by vague lines of cuticular pigment darker than surroundings. Abdominal tg1 developed as described for female; remaining terga typical of section II. Phallosome ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 11 ) typical of the genus. See also section “A note on the phallosome of Liposcelis ”.

Male sculpture of integument. Vertex throughout with areoles of moderate width each ending anteriorly in a sharp depressed line; areoles lightly shagreened throughout. Areoles of synthoracic notum as vertex except some anterior areoles bearing tubercles. Well sclerotized (anterior) regions of abdominal terga 2–8 with transverse areoles, some bearing single rows of tubercles, but mostly bare.

Male chaetotaxy. Vertex with moderately dense setae (~ 15µm); distances between setae slightly longer than setae. SI relatively long (28 µm); about half as long as width of lateral pronotal lobe. Prosternum with 4 setae. SII slightly shorter and slenderer than SI. Mesosternum with 6 setae in anterior row. Abdominal terga 3–7 each with 2 rows of short setae, an anterior and a posterior row on the anterior, well sclerotized region of each tergum (but anterior row well developed only on Tg 5–7). Major posterior abdominal setae mostly missing or not interpretable, but setae D differentiated (27µm), Md 10 very long, nearly 4 times length of surrounding setae (77µm).

Specimens examined. Holotype female. USA. Hawaii. Hawaii Co. Mauna Kea State Park. Pohakuloa Site, 19°15’N, 155°30’W, 2060 m, litter sample, 1 September 2002 (P. Krushelnycky et al.). Paratypes: 5 females with same data as holotype (BPBM); 1 male and 4 female paratypes, HPP1 (BPBM); other paratypes: HHP1, 1 female (ELM); MPL1, 2 females, 3 nymphs (BPBM); MPL2, 1 female (BPBM); MPP1, 3 females (ELM).
