Leucilla floridiana sensu Jenkin 1908

Jenkin (1908: 453) reported the Central West Atlantic species Leucetta floridana ( Haeckel, 1872) (originally as Leucaltis ) from Wasini Island. He misspelled the species name (as floridiana ) and transferred the species to the genus Leucilla because of the presence of ectosomal giant tetractines. Valderrama et al. (2009) redescribed and discussed L. floridana , restricting the occurrence of that species to the West Atlantic. They pointed out that Jenkin’s description is too limited to be able to classifiy his material and redescription is necessary.
