Etymology: paulistus = in reference to the State of São Paulo.

Distribution. Brazil (São Paulo, Mato Grosso), Uruguay and Argentina (Misiones).

Diagnostic characters. ♂ —Cercus in lateral view: basal 3/4 straight with a ventral triangular expansion a little before its half which partially covers the medial expansion, apical 1/4 forming an obtuse angle, the tip of cercus rounded. Cercus in mediodorsal view: base of cercus with a short distally–directed spine, medial expansion a little wider than the base, with the mesal edge slightly convex, and the apical half–covered with spinules. Paraproct in lateral view: more than half the length of cercus, narrow. Paraproct in dorsal view: narrow with a rounded tip.

♀ —Basal plate: species belonging to basal plate group 2 ( Fig. 38 ), with dorsal side more than twice the length of ventral side. Dorsal side with anterior 1/2 slight convex and posterior 1/2 concave, the junction of the dorsal and posterior side forming an acute process directed slight upward, posterior side little longer than ventral side ( Fig. 39D ).
