Enoplium praeustum Klug, 1842: 376 . Holotype male. Brazil (ZMHB). (Specimen point mounted, gender label affixed to paper point; mount card; locality label; type label, type number label-58866; ZMHB acronymic label; holotype label; identification label; plastic vial with abdomen and aedeagus.) Diagnosis. The extensive constriction at about the anterior half of the pronotum ( Fig. 61 View Figs ) will easily distinguish the members of this species from congeners.

Description. Size: Length 8.0 mm; width 2.2 mm. Form ( Fig. 138 View Figs ): Narrowly triangular. Integumental color ( Figs. 53–55): Cranium mostly yellow, black behind eyes; pronotal lower sides narrowly black, disc broadly black; elytra mostly yellow, with faint dark markings at base of sutural margin, black in distal third. Head: HW/ PW 1.0; frons indented; EW/VW 2.6; antenna as in Fig. 173 View Figs , funicle compressed. Thorax: Pronotum strongly constricted in anterior half ( Figs. 61 View Figs , 123 View Figs ); PL/PW 1.1; elytra strongly flared to posterior two-thirds, EL/PL 5.5; EL/EW 2.5; anterior margin of protibia with 9 spines. Male genitalia: Aedeagus as in Fig. 128 View Figs . Male mesodermal internal reproductive organs ( Fig. 191 View Figs ): Medial accessory gland shorter than lateral gland; testes comprised of 12 follicles. Female mesodermal internal reproductive organs ( Fig. 192 View Figs ): Spermatheca not capsular; spermathecal gland attached to subapex of spermatheca; bursa copulatrix saccular.

Variation. Size: length 6.6–10.0 mm; width 1.6– 2.6 mm. Variation of elytral color is depicted in Figs. 53–55.

Natural History. Specimens were collected from September through August; some at elevations of 300–500 m.

Distribution. The known distribution extends from Bolivia to Argentina ( Map 4 View Map 4 ).
