Also COL: (H08), (P11); plus PER: (H08). Probable synonym of H. duplex Selys, 1869 , based on variability of the red spots in the wing tips and the lack of a difference in the male caudal appendages (Rosser Garrison, pers. comm., 11 Sept. 2018).

Hetaerina brevistyla Selys, 1879 . Synonym of Hetaerina sanguinea Selys, 1853 .

Hetaerina capitalis var. colombiana Navás, 1923 . Synonym of Hetaerina capitalis Selys, 1873 .

Hetaerina carnifex Hagen in Selys, 1853 . Synonym of Hetaerina longipes Hagen in Selys, 1853 , according to Garrison (1990), which is a southern South American species and probably not found in Ecuador despite being listed by Selys (1873a), Hagen (1875), Paulson (1983) and Tsuda (1986).

Hetaerina crassidens De Marmels, 1982 (nomen nudum). Synonym of Hetaerina capitalis Selys, 1873 .

Hetaerina hebe Selys, 1853 . Reported from LR: Campos (1922). Listed only from Brazil by (L05). Garrison (1990), Tsuda (1991), (H08), (P11). The Campos record is probably for H. aurora which = H. duplex .

Hetaerina hera Hagen in Selys, 1853 (nomen nudum). Synonym of Hetaerina caja (Drury, 1773) .

Hetaerina heterosticta Selys, 1854 . Synonym of Hetaerina occisa Hagen in Selys, 1853 .

Hetaerina laesa Hagen in Selys, 1853 . Garrison (1990) states that it is found through “all of northern South America.” Listed from BRA, COL, GUF, GUY, PER, SUR, VEN: (L05), (H08), (P11), but not from Ecuador. It is not included in this list due to no substantiating records, but it should be in the eastern part of Ecuador.

Hetaerina macropus Selys, 1853 . Synonym of Hetaerina occisa Hagen in Selys, 1853 .

Hetaerina maxima McLachlan, 1879 . According to (H08) probably a synonym of Hetaerina capitalis Selys, 1873 .

Hetaerina moribunda Hagen in Selys, 1853 . Listed from Ecuador by Tsuda (1986, 1991) and (H08). Reported from BRA, GUF, GUY, VEN: (P11); plus SUR: (P16). Until a valid record is reported this species is not included in this list.
