( Figs. 12 View FIGURE 12 , 13 View FIGURE 13 )

Description. FEMALE (holotype, 5 paratypes, Figs. 12 View FIGURE 12 , 13 View FIGURE 13 B–D). Body, including gnathosoma, 310 long (310– 330) and 265 wide (260–290). Gnathosoma about 100 long and 105 wide. Palp 45 long (40–45) and 32 wide (32– 35), without lateral notches. Palpalae only slightly thickened ( Fig. 13 View FIGURE 13 B): dF 30–32, about 1.5 times longer than dG 20–22 and about 2.5 times longer than l”G 12–14. Setae dG with 10–12 pectinations. Setae vF about 55 long, smooth. Subcapitulum ventrally without membranous projections. Peritrematal branch about 35 long. Idiosoma 225–250 long. Smooth cuticle between peritrematal branches and transverse striations apunctate. All dorsal setae slightly serrate. Dorsal shield unornamented, 165 long (165–180) and 215 wide (200–215), roughly pentagonal; anterior margin widely concave, posterior margin with small median concavity. Idiosoma ventrally without scales or verrucosities, striated anterior to level of seta 3a bases and posterior to level of setal bases h1. Setae 1a situated slightly posterior to level of setal bases 1c. Setae 3a situated at level of coxal fields III. Distance between setal bases 3a 2 times longer than between setal bases 1a. Ventral setae h1 present. Distances h1–h1 and h2–h2 subequal. Coxal fields I and II smooth. Vulvar pocket-like structure without long lateral longitudinal folds. Vulvar apodemes weakly developed but discernible. Lengths of setae: vi, ve, si and se 85–100, c2 100 (90–100), h1 about 12, and h2 about 15. Solenidia ω 1 I and ω1 II 11–12 long, narrow straight and conical, with rounded apex. Empodium of tarsi I and II not elongated, only slightly longer or subequal to respective tarsus. Genua I and II with 3 setae (d, l’, v’), femora I and II with 2 setae (d and v), trochanters I and II with 1 seta (v). Apical segment of leg III with 5 setae; preapical segment with 2 setae. Leg IV with 2 segments; preapical segment with 1 seta; apical segment with 4 setae.

MALE (1 paratype in bad condition, Figs. 13 View FIGURE 13 A, E–G). Body, including gnathosoma, 250 long and 200 wide. Gnathosomal 60 long and 65 wide. Palp 35 long and 30 wide, without notches. Palpalae narrow, different in lengths: dF about 17, dG 13, and l”G 8. Setae vF 50 long, smooth. Subcapitulum ventrally as in female. Idiosoma about 180 long. Smooth cuticle between peritrematal branches and transverse striations apunctate. Dorsal shield 135 long and 165 wide; with straight anterior margin and widely concave posterior margin. Aedeagus 65 long, almost straight, situated anterior to genital opening. Genital opening situated in posterior quarter of dorsal shield. Genital arch about 25 long. Genital setae 8–10 long; setae g2 situated equidistant to g1 and g3. Distance g1–g1 30, g2–g2 25, and g3–g3 20. Setae vi, ve, si, and se 65–80 long, c2 50 long—all slightly serrate. Idiosoma ventrally without scales or verrucosities (damaged). Coxal fields I and II smooth. Leg I and II setation as in female. Solenidia ω 1 I and ω 1 II 7–9 long, narrow straight and conical, with rounded apex. Apical segment of leg III with 5 setae; preapical segment with 2 setae. Leg IV with 1 segment bearing 5 setae.

Type material. Holotype female ( OSAL 0077525), 5 female and 1 male paratypes ( OSAL 0 0 77524, 007726– 007730) from Charadrius vociferus Linnaeus ( Charadriiformes : Charadriidae ) [breast], USA: Texas, Lubbock Co., 33.6°N, 101.83°W (GNIS-USGS), 29 February 1960, coll. M. C. Swanson.

Type deposition. Holotype and most of paratypes in OSAL, 1 female paratype in ZISP.

Etymology. The specific epithet is derived from the generic name of the host and is a noun in apposition.

Hosts and distribution. Charadrius vociferus ( Charadriiformes : Charadriidae ) from USA (Texas) (present paper).

Differential diagnosis. Among species of the group capellae the new species is closest to Harpyrhynchoides calidris sp. nov. (see differential diagnosis above) and H. capellae . It differs from females of H. capellae , by palpalae dF are about 1.5 longer than dG (vs. subequal in H. capellae ), by subequal setae h1 and h2 (vs. h2 70 long, about four times longer than h1), and from males by the distance g2–g2 1.2 times longer than g3–g3 (vs. g3–g3 about three times longer than g2–g2).
