Description. Body length up to 1.55 mm, excluding antennae (Holotype: 1.55 mm; average 1.41 mm, n = 4). Ground colour between pale violet and dark blue, with small pale patches on many parts of the body (especially the rounded patches on anterior Abd IV), lateral body darker in general, and narrow stripes on final tergites; legs and antennae darker from the tip of Ant I ( Figs 2G View FIGURE 2 , 4I View FIGURE 4 ).

Head. Eight eyes, GH smaller than EF. Antennae length 0.698 mm, 2.22 times the length of the head (n = 5); Ant IV with apical vesicle bilobed (simple in one specimen); relative length of Ant I/II/III/IV = 1/1.93/1.73/2.36. Labral papillae multispinose ( Fig. 13E View FIGURE 13 ). Lateral process of labial papilla E reaching the papilla end.

Body. Length ratio of Abd IV/III = 3.77 (n = 4). Tibiotarsus not sub-segmented, without smooth chaetae, except for smooth terminal chaeta on legs III. Claw with four teeth: paired at 50% and first unpaired at 75% from basis; dorsal teeth basal ( Fig. 11F View FIGURE 11 ). Empodium lanceolate, with smooth external lamella in leg III. Tenent hair clavate. Length of manubrium and dens 0.24 and 0.35 mm, respectively (n = 4). Manubrial plate with four chaetae and two pseudopores. Mucro with teeth similar in size, mucronal spine reaching tip of subapical tooth ( Fig. 11G View FIGURE 11 ).

Macrochaetotaxy ( Figs 13A–D View FIGURE 13 ). Simplified Mc formula: 3-1-0-3-2/2-4/2-3/1-2-1/0-2-3-2-2. Head: three Mc An on H1 area (An2, An3a1 and An3), two Mc (A5 and A6) present on area H2; three Mc on Area H4 (S1, S3 and S4) and with Ps2 and Ps5 on Area H5. Mesothorax: area T1 with two Mc (m1 and m 2i); T2 with four Mc (m4, m 4i, a5 and m5). Abdomen: Abd II area A1 with two Mc (a2 and a3), area A2 with three Mc (m3, m3ep and m3e); Abd III with one Mc each on areas A3 (a1) and A5 (m3e) and two Mc on A4 (a2 and a3); Abd IV with two Mc on A7 (A3 and B3), two Mc on A8 (A4, B4 and C2a) and two Mc on A9 (A5 and B5) and A10 (A6 and B6).

Ecology. In Tenerife, found in litter of a banana plantation and on grass near the seashore, and in litter of Euphorbia balsamifera shrubland. In Fuerteventura, in lava fields litter of Launaea and Nicotiana . In La Gomera, on annual plants on a gravel slope. In Lanzarote, on vegetation and rock fissures in open areas and vineyards over lava fields.

Etymology. Grimanesa was the name of a Guanche princess.

Remarks. E. grimanesae sp. nov. shares the macrochaeta formula with E. cf. quinquelineata , but its colour is completely different and there are two characters that differentiate them: claw dorsal tooth and size of lateral process of labial papillae E. Table 1 shows the differences with other Entomobrya of the Canary Islands with similar chaetotaxy.
