Description. Body length up to 1.70 mm, excluding antennae (average for n = 7; Holotype: 2.33 mm). Ground colour white or very light blue, with pigment on lateral body from Th II to Abd IV, always with more or less triangular patches on dorsolateral Abd II–III and posterolateral Abd IV, and other patches (some transversal on posterior tergites) in other darker specimens; dorsal and lateral patches on head with different extension depending of specimens; legs with a terminal pigment patch on distal femur and lateral tibiotarsus; antennae with patches on the tip of segments, or with pigment from half of the second one to the final antennae ( Figs 2E View FIGURE 2 , 4G View FIGURE 4 ).

Head. Eight eyes, GH smaller than EF. Antennae length 0.85 mm, 2.54 times the length of the head (n = 6 for all measurements). Ant IV with apical vesicle bilobed. Relative length of Ant I/II/III/IV = 1/1.90/1.87/2.28. Prelabral chaetae ciliated. Labral papillae smooth ( Fig. 9E View FIGURE 9 ). Lateral process of labial papilla E a little shorter than the papilla end.

Body. Length ratio of Abd IV/III = 5.03 (n = 6). Trochanteral organ with 20 chaetae. Tibiotarsus not subsegmented, without smooth chaetae, except for smooth terminal chaeta on legs III. Claw with four teeth: paired at 50% and first unpaired at 75% from basis; dorsal tooth basally to the lateral ones ( Fig. 9F View FIGURE 9 ). Empodium lanceolate, with one or two small teeth on external lamella in leg III and with 5–8 smaller teeth. Tenent hair clavate. Length of manubrium and dens 0.32 and 0.42 mm, respectively (n = 6). Manubrial plate with 4–6 chaetae and two pseudopores. Mucro with teeth similar in size, mucronal spine reaching the tip of the subapical tooth ( Fig. 9G View FIGURE 9 ).

Macrochaetotaxy ( Figs 9A–D View FIGURE 9 ). Simplified Mc formula: 3-1-0-3-2/2-3/2-3/1-2-1/0-3-4-2-2. Head: Three Mc An on H1 area (An2, An3a1 and An3), A5 Mc present on area H2; three Mc on Area H4 (S1, S3 and S4) and with Ps2 and Ps5 on Area H5. Mesothorax: area T1 with two Mc (m1 and m 2i); T2 with three Mc (m4, m 4i and a5). Abdomen: Abd II area A1 with two Mc (a2 and a3), area A2 with three Mc (m3, m3ep and m3e); Abd III with one Mc each on areas A3 (a1) and A5 (m3e) and two Mc on A4 (a2 and a3); Abd IV with three Mc on A7 (A2, B2 and C1), four Mc on A8 (A4, A e4, B4 and C2a) and two Mc on A9 (A5 and B5) and A10 (A6 and B6).

Ecology. In Fuerteventura, found on moss on rocks in crevices in a shrubland slope with Ononis and Sideritis in one area, with Cynara horrida in another and on litter of Launea and Nicotiana . In Lanzarote, on litter of Carlina salicifolia and in shrubs under the slopes near the road.

Etymology. Fayna is a name of a girl of Guanche origin, a former princess of Lanzarote and mother of Ica, whose name means ‘between the light and the fire’.

Remarks. If the macrochaetotaxy of Th II, Abd II–III is considered simultaneously, only five species of the genus share the presence of the simplified formula for these tergites (2-3, 2-3 and 1-2-1): E. atrocincta Schött, 1896 , E. maroccana Baquero & Jordana, 2008 , E. melitensis Stach, 1963 , E. numidica Baquero, Hamra-Kroua & Jordana, 2009 and E. vergarensis Baquero, Arbea & Jordana, 2010 . Table 4 shows the differences that separate these species from thethe sp. nov. among them. The colour pattern of the new species could be considered similar to that of E. nicoleti , which has a very different macrochaetotaxy formula for the tergites Abd II–III (2-2/1-0-1).
