Diagnosis. This species ( Fig. 39 View FIGURES 29–39 ) is recognized by the uniformly black body, the pale yellowish-white antenna and legs, including the coxae, and the parameres ( Figs. 85, 86 View FIGURES 85–98 ).

Cyrtocapsus mesoamericanus is most similar to C. elutipes ( Figs. 20–22 View FIGURES 18–28 ) in having a black body, pale yellowishwhite antenna and legs (including the coxae), but C. elutipes is distinctly smaller, the left paramere ( Fig. 67 View FIGURES 58–70 ) is elongate and apically hooked, and the right paramere ( Fig. 68 View FIGURES 58–70 ) is somewhat L-shaped with the main body elongate oval and apically rounded, whereas C. mesoamericanus is larger, the left paramere ( Fig. 85 View FIGURES 85–98 ) is stoutly C-shaped, and the right paramere ( Fig. 86 View FIGURES 85–98 ) is elongate, weakly curved, and narrowed apically. I can distinguish females of C. mesoamericanus from those of C. elutipes only by the clearly larger size.

Description. Male ( Fig. 39 View FIGURES 29–39 ) (n = 3; holotype measurements in parentheses): Length to apex of membrane 3.49–4.12 mm (3.58 mm), length to base of cuneus 2.24–2.64 mm (2.46 mm), widest width across hemelytra 1.71– 1.74 mm (1.68 mm). Head: Width 0.88–0.93 mm (0.94 mm), interocular width 0.43–0.45 mm (0.45 mm). Labium: Length 0.86–0.96 mm (0.94 mm). Antenna: Segment I length 0.50–0.56 mm (0.46 mm); II, 0.51–0.94 mm (0.53 mm); III (n = 1) 0.72 mm; IV, missing (missing). Pronotum: Median length 0.90–0.99 mm (0.96 mm), basal width 1.39–1.50 mm (1.41 mm).

Coloration: Head black dorsally, yellowish brown on sides and undersurface; eyes fuscous. Labium yellowish brown. Antennal segments pale yellowish white. Pronotum, scutellum, and hemelytra uniformly black. Ventral surface of thorax and abdomen uniformly black. Legs, including coxae, uniformly yellowish white, with only claws slightly darker pale yellowish brown.

Texture and vestiture: Head shiny, weakly rugose, finely punctate between eyes, with median line, transverse lines on frons, and inner margins of eyes with silvery sericeous setae. Pronotum shiny, disc coarsely punctate, punctures finer on calli and collar; calli prominent, separated by a deep pit; anterior third across collar and calli with long, dense, silvery setae, sericeous setae on disc shorter and less dense. Hemelytron dull, impunctate, with patches of silvery sericeous setae.

Male genitalia: Left paramere ( Fig. 85 View FIGURES 85–98 ) stout, C-shaped. Right paramere ( Fig. 86 View FIGURES 85–98 ) elongate, weakly curved, and narrowed apically.

Female: Unknown.

Etymology. The specific epithet “mesoamericanus” is used to denote the Central American distribution of this species.

Host. One specimen was taken while fogging Hura crepitans L. [ Euphorbiaceae ].

Distribution. Known from Costa Rica, Mexico, and Panama.

Discussion. I note that the length of the second antennal segment in this species varies from relatively short (0.50–0.53 mm) to much longer (0.90–0.93), with one specimen measuring only 0.19 mm for both the right and left antenna, possibly indicating these are teratological abnormalities. Nevertheless, all other characters, including the distinctive parameres, are consistent among the specimens I am treating as this species.
