LECTOTYPE: AMNH 674870 , adult male, collected at Renthendorf , 50.48N, 11.58E ( USBGN, 1959), Germany, on 10 January 1818. From the Brehm Collection via the Rothschild Collection.

COMMENTS: No type was designated in the original description. Hartert and Kleinschmidt (1901: 40) listed the specimen labeled peregrinus by Brehm and collected on 10 January 1818 as the type, thereby designating it the lectotype. The annotation ‘‘4a’’ on the reverse of Brehm’s label corresponds to the number given it by Hartert and Kleinschmidt. One other specimen listed by Hartert and Kleinschmidt (no. 4c) and labeled peregrinus by Brehm came to AMNH: AMNH 674867, female juvenile, Rodathal (= Vallis Rodana as on label), 28 April 1817, but peregrinus was described only as a bird of migratory passage. The specimen labeled ‘‘4b’’ by Hartert and Kleinschmidt may have been exchanged by AMNH to ZFMK as AMNH 674881.
