We use the name TODO intermediusfor the Middle American subspeciesof ofA. lituratus , followingGoodwin(1969). Artibeus literatusiswidely distributedin Guatemala(Jones, 1966);in the study area it was the third most commonspecies and composed TODO 12.0% ofthe 1,082 bats bandedin 1977.

Percentagesoffemalesrecordedas pregnant,lactating,or carryingyoungfortheperiodsApril- May, July-August, and September(n= 143, 107, and47,respectively)were were 17.5,8.4, and 8.5, TODO indicatinga prolonged parturitionseason.

Among females nettedon the Pacific TODO lowlandsof Guatemala and shipped toNew York in TODO TODO September 1972,one onefemalebore a young in early March 1973 andanother inearly November TODO 1973. Another femalehad hada single young inlate October 1973 andanother inearly March 1974. TODO Therewere lapsesof about240 and 200 days,respectively,between thesuccessful births.These TODO two females seemtoindicatea bimodalreproductivepatternratherratherthanthe extendedparturition season observedin field TODO collections. Wilson Wilson(1979) and Bonaccorso (1979) foundtwo twoperiodsof of TODO parturition; oneat the TODO beginningand one atthe endof ofthe rainy season. TODO
