( Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 )

Ambrysus quadracies La Rivers 1976 View in CoL : Biol. Soc. Nev. Occas. Pap., 41: 3–4.

Published records. Mexico: Oaxaca, Veracruz ( La Rivers 1976; Reynoso-Velasco & Sites 2018a, 2019b).

New state record. Mexico: Chiapas.

Distribution. This species had been previously recorded from only two sites in Mexico: Catemaco (type locality in Veracruz) and Peña Rubia (Oaxaca). Based on the records presented herein, A. quadracies is distributed in southern Mexico lowlands (majority of records below 200 meters) of the states of Chiapas, Oaxaca, and Veracruz ( Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 ). All records for this species fall within the southern section of the Veracruzan biogeographic province. The northernmost records are located south of the Papaloapan River Basin (Veracruz). In the state of Chiapas, numerous specimens of A. quadracies were collected alongside or in the vicinity of the border with Guatemala and in some cases from rivers that originate in that country. One of these localities was Ixcán River (L-1896), a watercourse that originates on the slopes in the northwestern part of the Cuchumatanes mountain range, in the northwestern Guatemalan department of Huehuetenango. Thus, this species clearly also occurs in Guatemala, most probably in the lowlands of the Huehuetenango, Quiché, and Petén departments. Three female specimens of A. quadracies in the CNIN and IEXA had a label indicating they were collected in Cuernavaca, Morelos, which is 300 kilometers northwest of the closest records in northern Oaxaca (L-1880, L-1881). Additionally, these locations are separated by the eastern section of the Sierra Madre del Sur mountain range. Thus, it is doubtful that this species occurs in the state of Morelos; probably, the three female specimens were originally mislabeled.
