Description. Snout rounded, prominent. Rostral oval, narrow ventrally; frontal subhexagonal to subtrapezoidal; supraocular oblique, its lateral apex between nasal and preocular; eye in front of the upper posterior bor- der of the preocular; nasal sulcus arising from the first labial; SIP T-II-O (N2, P/O, O, O); MSR 22–26, reduction A/B 0–2, B/C 2–4; MD 312–379 (mean 339.2, n = 12); vertebrae 194–216 (mean 202.3, n = 9); MD/V ratio 1.60–1.84 (mean 1.70, n = 9); L/D ratio 33–41 (mean 38.8, n = 4). Dorsum blackish, with a large yellow spot at the apex of each scale, venter immaculate yellow. Largest specimen (MCZ 54510—Msinjiri, Tanzania) has a total length of 370 mm.

Distribution. Southeastern Tanzania, 375–620 m ( Fig. 13).
