Leguminaia saulcyi ( Bourguignat, 1852) View in CoL
Bourguignat (1852: 2) listed the type locality for Unio saulcyi as “Circa Joppitarum urbem habitat” [Joppa, Israel]. Haas (1969) listed L. saulcyi from Jaffa and Lake Antioch, Syria. This species is restricted to the region of Israel and Syria and has not been reported from the Tigris or Euphrates River basins. Harris (1965) listed L. saulcyi in his list of taxa from Iraq, but this appears to be a misidentification. He listed the substrates for L. saulcyi as sandy and silty. Graf and Cummings (2021) illustrated a shell lot identified as L. saulcyi from Iraq that appears to be a misidentification. Lopes-Lima et al. (2021) have restricted L. saulcyi to the area of southern Turkey and Syria. Based on this information, it is presumed this species is not a part of the native mussel fauna of Iraq.
