Type :— CHINA. Hubei: no exact locality, 8 Mar.1889, A. Henry 6766 [A-00046026!, lectotype (designated here); isolectotypes E-00010862!, K-000758144!] .

Homotypic synonym:— Pyrus koehneana (C. K. Schneider) Cardot (1918: 82) .

In the protologue, two gatherings, Henry 6766 and Giraldi 1086, were cited and none of them was indicated as the holotype, therefore, both are syntypes. I traced seven duplicates of Henry 6766 but none of Giraldi 1086. Further observations reveal that the seven duplicates of Henry 6766 were collected by Henry at different times and represent two different species, S. koehneana and S. discolor (Maximowicz) Maximowicz. Four sheets collected in 1885, A-00046027, E-00011360, K-000758132, and US-00097464, are obviously in conflict with the description of S. koehneana in the protologue and represent S. discolor ; other three sheets, A-00046026, K-000758144, and E-00010862, collected in March 1889, are in accordance with the description of S. koehneana in the protologue and can be candidates of the lectotype of S. koehneana . Here, one of them, Henry 6766 (A-00046026), is designated as the lectotype.
