Sorbus conradinae Koehne (1913: 460)

Type :— CHINA. Sichuan: “Western Szechuan, west and near Wen Chuan Hsien [Wenchuan]”, alt. 2000–2500 m., Sept. 1908, E. H. Wilson 1015 [A-00040988!, lectotype (designated here); isolectotypes K-000758120!, US-00097455!] .

Heterotypic synonym:— Sorbus esserteauiana Koehne (1913: 459) . Type (see below).

In the protologue, three gatherings, Wilson 1015, 4156, and 4321, were cited by Koenhe (1913) and none of them was indicated as the type, and thus all are syntypes. McAllister (2005) cited Wilson 1015 ( A) as the “ holotype ”. McAllister’s misuse of the term “ holotype ” did not achieve the lectotypification of the name S. conradinae . According to the Art. 7.10, the designation of lectotype was only achieved if the typification statement includes the phrase “designated here” (hic designatus) or an equivalent after 1 January 2001. Here I follow the choice of McAllister to designate Wilson 1015 (A-00040988) as the lectotype through using the phrase “designated here”.

Koehne (1913) distinguished S. conradinae from S. asserteaniana by “its [the former’s] broader leaflets with the veins deeply impressed above and strongly elevated beneath, and in their snowy white, not greenish white, under surface”, but later authors treated the former as a synonym of the latter ( Lu & Spongberg 2003, McAllister 2005).
