Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Kavieng, New Ireland by Kailola (1975: 28), based on KFRS material.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East Africa, Seychelles, Madagascar and western Mascarenes east to northern Gilbert Islands ( Kiribati), Samoa and Tonga, north to southern Japan, south to Dampier Archipelago (Western Australia), Queensland ( Australia) south to 23°03'S and New Caledonia. Schooling in coastal waters, including, estuaries, 0–50 m depth. Transitional water and marine.
