Note: Pseudolophiotrema was introduced by Hashimoto et al. (2017) to accommodate a single species P. elymicola A. Hashim. & Kaz. Tanaka. The genus is morphologically similar to Lophiotrema based on its crest-like neck, a peridium of uniform thickness, as well as the shape of the asci and ascospores. It, however, can be distinguished from Lophiotrema by having thinner ascomatal walls, composed of compressed cells, while the ascomatal wall of Lophiotrema comprises rectangular cells ( Holm & Holm 1988, Hashimoto et al. 2017). Pseudolophiotrema is also similar to Atrocalyx A. Hashim. & Kaz. Tanaka in Lophiotremataceae , but is different based on its well-developed peridium around the ostiolar neck and base ( Hashimoto et al. 2017). Pseudolophiotrema was treated as Pleosporales genus incertae sedis by Hashimoto et al. (2017) based on its placement in the phylogenetic tree. In this study, the placement of Pseudolophiotrema outside of Lophiotremataceae is supported by both phylogenetic and MCC trees, with a stem age 95 MYA in the MCC tree. Therefore, we raise Pseudolophiotrema to familial status.
