NOTES: Lister (1898a: 117) under “Mycetozoa of Antigua and Dominica ” wrote “On dead leaves, Antigua. Mr. Cran has sent five gatherings of this species.” and he comments further on “The species is represented in the Kew Collection by a specimen from South Carolina marked Diderma pallidum Berk. & Curt. No. 1972 , and in the British Museum Collection by one from Ravenel under the same name; there are other specimens also in the British Museum from South Carolina, Georgia, and Brisbane, marked “ Physarum ”, “ Didymium serpula ” and “ Angioridium valvatum ”. Diderma pallidum is mentioned by Berkeley in Grevillea , ii. 52, under “Notices of North American Fungi” and reference is made to the specimen No. 1972, but he does not describe it, and no previous record of the name can be traced.” This last comment explains why this is not a combination based on Diderma pallidum . At the end Lister adds “Prof. Penzig has collected both P. bivalve and P. pallidum in Java”. There are illustrations in the original pubication (Pl. 385, figs. 1,a,b,c). In BM 5 boxes were located from the type locality Antigua, Dec. 96, with numbers Cran 24 (2 boxes one with a card tray with specimen 103), Cran 24ª, Cran 25 y 25A (in the same box) and 1653. We consider them all to be syntypes. There is also a dry mount on a slide and a slide preparation from the same locality (L:B.M.33A) and another two slides Cran 24A and Cran 25, of the above collections. There are excellent notes in the notebooks XIII: 54–56 and XIV: 108–109. The species P. pallidum was published by Lister en April 1898, but in February of the same year, Marian Raciborski, described P. bogoriense Racib. , a species later considered to be identical by Lister (1925), and so a synonym.
