Taxonomy. Peromyscus latirostris Dalquest, 1950 View in CoL , “Apetsco, near Xilitla, elevation 2700 feet [= 823 m], San Luis Potosi, México.”
Peromyscus latirostris is in the furvus species group. It was considered as a synonym of P. furvus ; however, recent molecular studies have shown that populations from San Luis Potosi and Querétaro, Mexico, are distinct from populations further south and should be recognized as P. latirostris . Monotypic.
Distribution. SE San Luis Potosi and NE Querétaro, Mexico. View Figure
Descriptive notes. No specific measurements available. The Wide-rostrum Deermouse is presumably similar to the Blackish Deermouse ( P. furvus ).
Habitat. Temperate pine-oak and cloud forests, typically at elevations of 220-1400 m.
