Dactylopus vararensis Scott T., 1903 .
Amphiascus vararensis (Scott T., 1903) .
Paramphiascoides vararensis (Scott T., 1903) .
Material examined. Wando (34°14′34.0″N, 126°50′33.0″ E), Korea; collected by DG Jeon on 17 May 2017.
Deposition. NIBRIV0000879019.
World distribution. Scotland, UK and Korea.
Diagnosis. Body semicylindrical, fusiform. Total body length 697 μm, largest width 108 μm. Rostrum not bifid, relatively large, defined at its base, triangular, and with a pair of sensilla. Cephalothorax tapering anteriorly. Caudal rami broader than long. Antennule eight segmented. Antenna with small coxa, elongated allobasis, and three segmented exopod. Swimming legs I - IV, biramous, endopods and exopod three segmented. First endopodite segment of P1 (first thoracopod) reaching to end of exopod at most, third endopodal segment of P1 about 1.5 times as long as second endopod segment. P5 (fifth thoracopod), endopodal lobe with five setae; exopod oval, slightly longer than wide, separated from baseoendopod, and armed with five setae.
Remarks. According to Marcotte (1974) and Wells (2007), the Korean specimen is morphologically most closely related to Paramphiascella vararensis (Scott T., 1903) based on the following morphological characteristics: 1) rostrum not bifid, 2) caudal rami broader than long, with two unmodified terminal setae, 3) antenna with three segmented exopod, middle segment of exopod without seta, distal segment of exopod with three setae, and 4) first endopodal segment of P1 extends to just beyond third exopodal segment at most, third endopodal segment of P1 about 1.5 times as long as second segment of endopod. The Korean population of P. vararensis is slightly different from the type species in the shape of P1 endopod first segment.
