Ostrea melania d’Orbigny, 1850b: 327 , n° 552. Correction pour homonymie primaire, pro Ostrea orbicularis Sowerby, 1837 non Gmelin, 1789.

Ostrea pyrenaica d’Orbigny, 1850b: 327 , n° 548. Nom fondé sur Ostrea gigantea sensu d’Archiac, 1846 (p. 366, pl. 17, fig. 2) non Sowerby, 1814. Localités types: Le Vît-de-Castellane (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence), syntypes: 2 spécimens (MNHN R64232); Biarritz (Pyrénées- Atlantiques), syntypes: 2 spécimens ( MNHN R64233) ; Brassempouy (Landes), syntype ( MNHN A25909). Le catalogue de la collection d’Orbigny mentionne cette espèce du Vît-de-Castellane au n° 8963, de Biarritz au n° 8963b, et de Brassempouy au n° 8963a .
