Omma stanleyi Newman 1839: 304 View in CoL . Neboiss (1968, 1989); Lawrence (1999).
Diagnosis. Body clothed with moderately short and decumbent yellowish setae. Head elongate, 1.3 times as long as wide. Frontoclypeus slightly concave. Prothorax slightly transverse, 0.7 times as long as wide. Elytra 2.0 times as long as wide (EL/EW), surface without raised carinae or tubercles ( Figs 2 View FIGURES 1–3 , 59 View FIGURES 56–63 ); epipleura narrow ( Fig. 58 View FIGURES 56–63 ). Aedeagus with parameres longer than penis ( Fig. 90 View FIGURES 85–95 ).
Description. Length: ♂ 14–20 mm, ♀ 14.4–27.5 mm. Body 1.3 times as long as wide (BL/EW), integument dark brownish, clothed with moderately short and decumbent yellowish setae. Head elongate, 1.3 times as long as wide, surface with uniform setae but longer dorsally around the eyes and temple. Frontoclypeus slightly concave. Labrum transverse with more or less truncate apex bordered with pointed tubercles. Gulamentum with setae converging to the disc. Mentum as long as wide, slightly narrowing towards the apex, surface concave. Antennae not extending beyond base of prothorax; antennomere (♂) length/width ratios, 1: 1.0, 2: 0.8, 3: 2.5, 4: 1.4, 5: 1.2, 6: 1.3, 7: 1.3, 8: 1.2, 9: 1.2, 10: 1.3, 11: 1.7; antennomere 5 with one sensory area, antennomeres 6–9 with two sensory areas and antennomere 11 with one large sensory area. Apical labial and maxillary palpomeres expanded and securiform.
Prothorax with uniform setae, slightly transverse, 0.7 times as long as wide, pronotal disc slightly convex with a transverse depression between posterior impressions; notopleural suture complete, sternopleural suture absent; prosternal process incomplete and short. Elytra surface without carinae, widest around mid-length. Outer surface of protibia in male often with small setose excavation at basal third to fourth (fig. 9 in Lawrence 1999, see comments). Protarsus (♂) 0.7 times as long as protibia (TAL/TIL). Mesotarsus 1.2 times as long mesotibia (TAL/TIL). Meta- tarsus 1.9 times as long as metatibia (TAL/TIL). Abdominal ventrite 5 posterior edge partially margined. Aedeagus with penis narrowing to apex, parameres with apical oval notch and translucent apical portion extended forward well beyond apex of penis ( Fig. 90 View FIGURES 85–95 ).
Comments. The size and presence of the male protibial dimorphism is variable, it can be absent (e.g., Biggenden, nr. Rifle Range) or present in one leg only (e.g., Macedon, VIC), and in some the setose excavation is reduced to only 1–2 setae. The gut contents of one specimen (Biggenden, nr. Rifle Range) included abundant items resembling pollen or spores.
